Public Health - COVID-19 Updates

‚Äč‚Äč‚Äč‚ÄčStudent and staff safety are a top priority for the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB). With all health-related matters, the LKDSB follows the direction of local and provincial Medical Officers of Health and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Information regarding the Novel Coronavir‚Äč‚Äčus ‚Äď COVID-19

In accordance with the order by the Minister of Education, all Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) schools remain closed to students in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This closure extends from the recommendation from the Provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health and is made by Ministerial Order, which is permitted in the Education Act.

The LKDSB looks forward to welcoming students for the start of the school year on Tuesday, September 8. Currently, schools and Education Centres are open to the public by appointment only.

Planning for the 2020-2021 school year is underway. The Ministry of Education continues to seek guidance from Public Health officials and will provide further clarification to school boards and parents/guardians closer to the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Check the LKDSB website regularly for updates. Additional information will be provided to parents/guardians and students as per typical means of communication (such as phone or email if your contact information is on file).

On June 19, the Ontario government released its safety plan for the resumption of class for the 2020-2021 school year, outlining scenarios for how students, teachers and staff can safely return to classrooms in September.

The province's announcement may be found at this link.‚Äč

Looking ahead to the 2020-2021 school year, the LKDSB is planning for many possibilities. In anticipation of various possible scenarios, LKDSB is planning for a return to regular, in-class learning with enhanced health and safety protocols; a modified school day routine with a maximum limit of 15 students in a typical classroom at one time and timetabling that would limit student contact with teachers and classmates as much as possible; and a continuation of remote, teacher-led at-home learning.

Depending on the provincial and local Public Health recommendations, LKDSB schools may need to transition between these scenarios during the 2020-2021 school year as circumstances necessitate. The Ministry of Education continues to seek guidance from Public Health officials and will provide further clarification to school boards and parents/guardians closer to the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

Updates will be posted on this website as soon as they become available. Information will be provided to parents/guardians as per typical means of communication (such as phone or email if your contact information is on file).

Parents/guardians with specific questions about their child should contact their school directly. Please note: School voicemail will be checked throughout the summer.
