Pathways Destination Planning

Planning for the world of work and apprenticeships can happen throughout a students education.

Grade 7, 8, 9 and 10 should focus on research and exploration in order to ensure that their course selection for the following year aligns with the requirements for courses related to their interested fields.

By the time students get to grade 11, a more targeted career exploration can begin. Grade 11 students are encouraged to begin exploring opportunities offered such as SHSM programs, Dual Credit, Cooperative Education and OYAP. By February of their grade 11 year, it is helpful if students know the pathway, career sectors and programs they may be interested in, in order to ensure they pick appropriate courses required for post secondary, whether its apprenticeship, college, university or direct to work.

By grade 12, students should enrolled in the necessary courses and programs that will best prepare them for the post secondary application process. Supports for students heading directly to the workplace, or who are embarking on the apprenticeship stream are found below.
