LKDSB Releases Thoughtexchange Report Regarding City of Sarnia Elementary Schools

June 21, 2018

The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) has published a report on the results from the Thoughtexchange process regarding the City of Sarnia Elementary School phase of pupil accommodation.

The Thoughtexchange was held March 26-April 6 and the report highlights the 866 thoughts contributed by 627 participants, including parents/guardians, students, staff, and community members.

The Thoughtexchange involved a three-step process: Share, Star and Discover. During the "share" phase, stakeholders provided a variety of thoughts on the issues that were most important to them, including discussions about class sizes and extra-curricular activities, as well as increasing efficiencies and consolidating support services and resources. After sharing their thoughts, participants were invited to "star" comments submitted by others. A total of 13,115 stars were assigned to the thoughts shared in the Thoughtexchange. The final report includes all of the comments shared in the Thoughtexchange process, as well as the number of stars assigned to each thought.

Although the City of Sarnia elementary school communities were invited to participate in the Thoughtexchange, this is not the start of a pupil accommodation review for the area. Effective June 2017, the Ministry of Education suspended all new pupil accommodation reviews pending the review of the Pupil Accommodation Review Guidelines. An Initial Staff Report has not been presented to LKDSB Trustees for approval.

"We greatly appreciate the input provided by students, parents/guardians, staff and community members in the City of Sarnia Elementary School Thoughtexchange," said Jim Costello, Director of Education. "Through ongoing engagement, the LKDSB will have a better understanding of the community's thoughts and concerns. As well, the information will help support Senior Administration in making decisions that best support our communities moving forward."
