We would like to invite you to consider the opportunity of sending your son/daughter on an International Educational/Cultural Excursion to St Malo, France this summer. Last summer 40 LKDSB elementary students from 18 different schools, and 4 principals participated in this exciting educational opportunity. This year we are pleased to offer the opportunity again but with a Juno Beach/Normandy addition. This experience compliments what students are learning during the school year and it offers students a chance to consolidate their French language skills and explore French communities that have historical significance for Canadians.
When: (Approx) June 27th , 2020- July 7th, 2020

Overview of trip:
While in St Malo, our students will be billeted with a Homestay family. In some cases, there will be two students placed in the same family. Students will attend morning French classes at a local school and then participate in alternative learning activities and cultural experiences in the afternoon. There will also be a full day excursion to Mont Saint Michel and Cancale. In the evening, students will have an opportunity to participate in family life with their host families.
On July 5th students will transfer by bus to the town of Bayeux, Normandy. July 6th will be spent touring various Canadian World War II battle sites including Juno Beach. From there students will head to Paris for one day of sighting seeing. This will include a visit to the Eiffel tower and time to shop. Students would then be transferred to the airport for their flight home.
As you are aware, air fares fluctuate. As a result, travel arrangements have not been completed as we continue to search for the most efficient and economical air carrier. The group will depart from either Detroit or Toronto. Bus transportation will be provided to and from the airport. The cost of the trip is $3,500 CAD. This will include airfare, all meals, transportation, and excursions in Normandy and Paris, it also includes the transfer to St Malo, 7 nights in St Malo (7 Full Board Homestay accommodations, meals, French lessons and all daily excursions). Students will only need to bring a small amount of money if they wish to purchase souvenirs and snacks.
A Family Information Night, will be held on Tuesday, November 12th , 2019 from 6-7 pm in the Board Room of the Chatham Regional Education Centre (CREC) , and Thursday, November 14th at the Sarnia Education Centre (SEC) from 6-7pm. At the meeting, parents and students will learn more about this opportunity and they will be able to ask questions.
