Dear Great Lakes Secondary School Students and Families:
I am writing to inform you that a former Great Lakes Secondary School teacher, Tyler Shaw, was found guilty of sexual assault and sexual exploitation. His sentencing date is to be determined.
This teacher has not been in the school since the allegations were made.
The LKDSB provided an update to the Ontario College of Teachers regarding this matter. Under the Protecting Students Act, 2016, Ontario teachers found guilty of professional misconduct involving sexual offences face a mandatory loss of their teaching certification.
I wanted to inform you of this, as the LKDSB values open and transparent dialogue with its students, families and the community. Please be assured the LKDSB takes all allegations of professional misconduct seriously and is committed to providing safe and caring learning environments for its students.
