I want to inform you that the opening of the Great Lakes Secondary School permanent site has been delayed to a date to be determined, as a result of construction delays due to available skilled tradespeople in the area.
I understand that this may cause some questions and concerns, as you were anticipating a transition in September 2018. I assure you that Senior Administration has been working hard with the contractor to move the project forward, however we have been faced with challenges that are beyond our control.
Once the LKDSB became aware that a September 2018 opening was unattainable, Senior Administration communicated this update to the school community, including notifying staff, students and the School Council. Our priority is ensuring the transition to the new school site causes minimal disruptions to students' academics and programming.
The LKDSB plans to work with the school community, including students, parents/guardians and staff, in the early fall to develop a plan for the transition to the new school site once timelines have been determined.
We are committed to mitigating any impacts this delay may cause. We are also hopeful you will participate in the school community discussions this fall regarding the future transition planning. It is our goal to ensure a smooth and positive transition for all students and staff.
Read a media release about this announcement.
Thanks for your cooperation as we work together to support our students through this transition. Please contact your school principal should you have any further questions or concerns.
