Today, the Ontario government released its safety plan for the resumption of class for the 2020-21 school year, outlining scenarios for how students, teachers and staff can safely return to classrooms in September.

The province's announcement may be found at this link.

As noted in the provincial government's media release, all school boards, including the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB), are planning for three possible scenarios: return to regular, in-class learning with enhanced health and safety protocols; a modified school day routine with a maximum limit of 15 students in a typical classroom at one time and timetabling that would limit student contact with teachers and classmates as much as possible; and a continuation of remote, teacher-led at-home learning.

Consideration and plans are already underway for the 2020-2021 school year and this will continue throughout the summer, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education guidelines and provincial and local Medical Officers of Health. Parents/guardians can be assured the LKDSB is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students are at the forefront of these plans. We will also be seeking input from families to inform our planning processes.

We will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available. For up-to-date COVID-19 information, Learn at Home resources, community supports and mental health resources and supports, visit the LKDSB website.

Should you have any further questions at this time or throughout the summer, please contact your school (voicemail is checked regularly).

Sincerely,
John Howitt
Director of Education
