🌟 Celebrating Black History Month at LKDSB 🌟
Every February, we reflect on the incredible achievements and contributions of Black Canadians. But at LKDSB, we believe in celebrating Black history year-round. Our educators bring Black history, voices, and perspectives into classrooms every day, fostering understanding and respect for the cultural contributions that have shaped our world.
This February, join us as we shine a spotlight on events, lessons, and activities across our Board to honour the lasting legacy of Black Canadians. It’s an opportunity for students, families, and communities to learn, celebrate, and be inspired by the remarkable individuals who’ve shaped our past—and continue to shape our future.
We invite you to explore the rich history of Black Canadians, including the powerful stories from our own local communities. Together, let’s build a more inclusive, compassionate, and prosperous Canada, today and every day!✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽

Thai Pongal, which means "to boil or overflow," is a 4-day Tamil festival celebrating the fall harvest, the sun, and the spirit of renewal. 🌞 It's a time to give thanks for the bounty of the earth, let go of the old, and make room for new beginnings as we welcome spring. 🌱
Traditions include gathering around fires, offering old belongings to burn, and giving gifts like sugarcane, bananas, and coconuts to honour the sun gods and those who watch over the weather, land, and animals. 🔥🍌🌿
Here’s to letting go, to new beginnings, and to the radiant sun that sustains us all. ☀️
🌾✨ Iniya Thai Pongal Valthukkal to those celebrating! 🎉

On December 10th, we observe Human Rights Day, honouring the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948. This day reminds us of the importance of upholding dignity, equality, and justice for all people, everywhere.
At the Lambton Kent District School Board, we are dedicated to fostering a learning environment that promotes respect, inclusion, and the protection of human rights. On this day, we encourage our community to reflect on the value of human rights and continue working toward a world where everyone is treated with fairness and respect.

On December 6th, we observe the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, marking the tragic 1989 École Polytechnique massacre. This day is an opportunity to honour the lives lost and raise awareness about the ongoing issue of gender-based violence.
At the Lambton Kent District School Board, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful environment for all. Together, let’s reflect, remember, and take action toward ending violence against women in our community.

On December 3rd, LKDSB recognizes the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Let’s reflect on the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and celebrating the diverse abilities in our schools and community. Together, we can create a more inclusive world!

This week marks Bullying Awareness & Prevention Week throughout LKDSB.
Everyone has a part to play in ending bullying. We urge staff, students, and families to dedicate some time this week to understand the different forms of bullying, recognize the signs that a child might be experiencing bullying, and learn how to maintain a bully-free environment in our school communities.
