ACCREDITED SCHOOL BOARD PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKER (PSW) CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS IN  ONTARIO

​The Program                                

Personal Support Worker (PSW) programs consist of more than 700 hours of theoretical and experiential hands-on learning. Students participate, learn and gain valuable work experience in labs and Clinical (Co-op) work placements in the healthcare field.

The Teaching Team

Courses are taught by collaborative teaching teams that include regulated health care professionals registered with the College of Nurses and certified Ontario teachers.

​Eligibility & Access  

Candidates can apply to the Lambton Kent District School Board PSW Program by contacting Alexander Mackenzie Secondary School in Sarnia, ON (North) and Wallaceburg District Secondary School in Wallaceburg, ON (South).  


The Standards

Programs follow the Ontario Ministry of Education expectations, the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Vocational Learning Outcomes, and the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care industry standards.

More than 2,000 learners graduate each year from 21 school board- run PSW programs across Ontario.

                             

The Impact

These cost-effective school board- delivered PSW programs provide the following measurable outcomes:

  • ​​  Students can earn credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma;
  •   Students receive additional certifications including First Aid/CPR and Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) and more;
  •   98% of graduates secure employment within 2 months;
  •   ​Graduates are current, competent and completely prepared to start work in the healthcare field.
