In the JK/SK French Immersion class, the class enjoyed reading “It’s okay to be different” by Todd Parr. This story encourages readers to accept themselves and others. The students then enjoyed re-telling the story and discussing what makes them unique and special. This is a great lesson for students of all ages!

An idea which started based on friendship bracelets came to life through some help at the office.
First, life-sized beads were created and then strung. Then the creativity really happened to be able to display the bracelets. The final outcome is shown in the display showcase at the front of the school for all students, family and guests to the school to reflect about how they can show "Love and Kindness" all the time, but especially during Pride Month this June.

On Thursday, June 12th, our students from JK through Grade 3 will have a chance to have fun with Play Day activities led by our Intermediate students. These activities will take place during the middle block of the day, between 11:55am and 1:35pm. If parents would like to see the activities, we invite you to join the happenings on the school yard. Please refrain from bringing pets onto the yard. Also, please be respectful of the privacy of other students and do your best to take photos of your child without other students in the shots. We are looking forward to a great Play Day!

Wildcats families: This is a quick reminder about the photo opportunity on Monday, June 9th. Each class has been assigned a colour that we invite them to wear so that our entire student body can be arranged in a colour spectrum for the photo.
If there is severe rain or inclement weather, the photo will be postponed until Wednesday, June 11th.

Good afternoon parents and guardians,
This message is regarding AREA Track & Field tomorrow, June 5th at CKSS and the athletes and family members attending.
This event will happen rain or shine, so long as there is no lightning. Students and family members need to come prepared with umbrellas, pop-up tents, waterproof or extra clothing. CKSS as a school will be completely off-limits to students and family members, including for washrooms and escaping the possible wet weather. Please listen to CKSY regarding potential meet cancellation if there is thunder and lightning.
We remain hopeful that the weather could change between now and tomorrow morning and everything can go ahead as planned. And, we appreciate the support you have shown to your athletes to this point.

This Saturday, June 7th, there is a great opportunity in the Blenheim community for young students to learn some bike safety, have a chance to win a prize and, receive a free lunch. Lunch items will be available to be purchased for non-participants. Check out details on the flyer attached.

This is a great opportunity for your children to try a new sport, be active and help raise money for a great cause. We have many families in our school who use the numerous services that the Children's Treatment Centre offer, both at their centre and also at the school.

Today is "Dress like your favourite book character Day" and we were not disappointed. Check out the garb that some students and staff came up with!

Our school has been fortunate to have visits from the St. John's Ambulance Therapy Dog program. The dogs and their handlers visited the students in their classrooms, explained how the program works, and what the dogs can do. Everyone was delighted, and most delighted of all were the dogs who got lots of attention! 🦮🐾🦴

Despite the weather, our Grade 6 through 8 students attended a very informative and engaging field trip today at Buxton National Historic Site and Museum. Students rotated through a variety of learning stations to gain a better understanding of the life and times of residents in the community of Buxton. With this National Historic Site being relatively close to our school and playing such a significant part in history, it was a fantastic opportunity to learn through hands on activities.

We were thrilled with the turnout for our Wellness Event last evening. Families enjoyed different stations, and the fan favourite were the smoothies provided by the BDHS foods class! There were also lots of sweaty folks leaving after they got active in the gym doing different fitness activities. A special recognition to some student volunteers who helped to make the event successful.

We are all set up and ready for our Wellness Event today. Stations will be running every 30 minutes between 5pm and 7pm. Please remember that students need to be accompanied by an adult. We have 6 different prizes to be won, and lots of fun to be had!

Volunteers Needed:
In one week, on May 14th, our annual Track and Field meet will take place at the school. A request had been included in the May Newsletter for volunteers to run the concession stand where hotdogs are grilled and sold along with other items such as Gatorade, and chips.
In order to make these items available to students and families who are visiting, we need volunteers. Without volunteers to run the concessions, this opportunity won't be available for students and families.
Please contact the school office directly if you are able to lend a hand on Thursday, May 15th by calling 519-676-5481.
Thanks for your time and consideration,!

One week from now, our Family Wellness Event will take place. We are hoping for a great turnout and ask that you reply by using the QR code on the flyer. There are 5 different community partners who will have active and engaging sessions to participate in. Come for the whole two hours, from 5pm to 7pm, or just for a bit; whatever works for your schedule. Prizes will be available to we won by attending. See the details on the flyer attached.

Well, we weren't about to back down to a challenge, so when the nomination came from W.J. Baird, we responded within 24 hours. We had 10 staff who took part in the "Ice Bucket Challenge" to raise awareness for mental health and to get people talking. We nominate Naahii Ridge P.S., Ridgetown District High School and Tilbury Area Public School. You now have 24 hours to complete the challenge!

All Grade 1-8 students in the school participated in a version of March Madness involving French music. The competition was called "Manie Musicale" celebrating Francophone music from around the world. Students would listen to two songs and then vote on which song they liked best. This is how the artists would progress from one bracket to another and towards the championship. Participating classes Here is a shot of Mme Janisse’s class and Adalynn, grade 1 student, posing as “Tali," a singer from France.

Students in the Art Club have been working at designing a souvenir button for the 102nd Buxton Homecoming celebration. One lucky student's submission will be used to "Celebrate Buxton's Agriculture" by submitting their design. We are hopeful that perhaps one of our student's creation might be selected.

Some of our students have partnered with the care team and residents from Blenheim Community Village to write penpal letters, participate in holiday activities as well as Earth Day activities. Last year, the students were invited to a tree planting ceremony at the Village. This year, due to illness within the LTC home, this couldn't take place.
So, the teachers adapted the plan and decided to do yard cleanup on the Village property as well as the school and neighbouring properties to mix Earth Day and Pitch In Week together. What a great way to show how helpful and capable our students are to the seniors who might not be able to do what they would like to in order to have a safe place to enjoy.

In our JK/SK French Immersion class, they have been learning about Life Cycles! In science, they learned about the life cycle of a bean 🫘 They know plants need soil, water, and sunlight to grow. They also learned that bees need to pollinate the flowers. They each planted two bean seeds in a bag with a paper towel and water, then stuck them on the window. Once their seeds sprout, they are going to plant them outside in the soil.
Every year, they are lucky to have robins build a nest in our classroom window. The students have had the opportunity to watch the nest being constructed, and they have been patiently waiting for the first egg to appear. They checked the nest last week when school began and it was empty. They noticed the female bird sitting in the nest all throughout the morning, so they checked it again at recess... and VOILA... the first egg was there!
