Are you tired of your children's belongings being lost or misplaced, and then having to replace them numerous times?

We have a solution for you!

By ordering Mabel's Labels, you will be able to label everything from water bottles, lunch containers, to shoes and clothing. The labels are dishwasher safe and hold up through the laundry cycles. At the same time as preventing lost items, you can support Harwich Raleigh by selecting our school as an organization to support. Simply go to www.mabelslabels.ca, and then from the right side of the page select 'support a fundraiser' at which time you can type in "Harwich Raleigh." Simply through your shopping and label purchases, our school will benefit.

We like to think of this as a "Win, Win" situation.

To recognize the importance of learning and gaining knowledge from those who came before us, teachers throughout the school presented lessons and learning opportunities about residential school, Indigenous people losing their languages, culture and ways of life, and how what has taken place in the past still deeply impacts current generations. Each photo you see below illustrates some learning that has taken place with various teachers and students across the student body.

Mme Vandermeer helping to identify emotions that students feel about school with her JK/SK students
Mrs. Roberts Grade 1/2 class read two read aloud books and then compiled a chart with their thoughts afterwards
Mrs. Broadwood’s grade 1/2 class each made a necklace to resemble an orange shirt. Each person’s necklace said “First name matters"
Mrs Stickney’s Grade 4 class had much learning in the days leading up to September 30th. They each wrote about why Orange Shirt Day is important to them and how they can honour our Indigenous community members
individual student writing
Mrs. Stanford’s Grade 5/6 class participated in a live painting opportunity with Moses Lundham, who lead students through creating their own artwork for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Grade 5/6 students painting
Mr. Alex and Mr. Agnew’s grade 6/7 French Immersion class were each asked to create their own version of an orange shirt, incorporating their learning which has taken place during the past few days.
As part of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, one of our Grade 7/8 classes did some important learning today and it will continue for another day or two. Initially, they watched “Spirit Bear and Children Make History” and discussed what the students learned and the importance of Jordan’s Principle and it introduced us to the 94 Calls to Action. They then read through all 94 Calls to Action in student-friendly language. Following that, they looked at a website that showed us which of the Calls to Action have been completed and were shocked that in 10 years, only 13-17 have been completed. They discussed why it’s a range of numbers and that’s because everyone has a differing opinion and it cannot be agreed upon how many have actually been completed. Lastly, the students broke off into groups and got to choose from a list of incomplete Calls to Action. They then had to analyze their Call to Action and reflect on it. After that, they had to answer the following questions: What are some ways that the government (federal, provincial, and/or municipal) can make this Call to Action happen? What are some ways that Canadian citizens can make this Call to Action happen? They had to answer these questions on a big chart paper. And then they will present their work for their whole class in the coming days. This work is important, for everyone to keep learning and taking responsibility for the Calls to Action.

HRPS students, staff and families helped to make the 45th Terry Fox Run a success. Together, our fundraising efforts helped us to surpass our $2000 fundraising goal. We raised $2116.50 to contribute to cancer research in Terry's memory. The walk on Thursday afternoon was a great way to get out, get moving, and not give up on Terry's dream. Students from four classes completed decorating a paper shoe while learning about Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope and were able to display them in the hallway in the shape of a shoe for all to be able to see. Way to go, Wildcats!

On Sunday, September 14th, The Terry Fox Run will take place in Blenheim. Organziers are hoping for an abundant turn out of participants, especially from local elementary students.

For students who can attend, and who are able to raise a minimum of $50 towards the school goals (the money does not need to be brought to the event, but will need to be raised by the school run date of September 25th, all money raised will count towards the HRPS goal of $2000), the student will be entered into a draw to win a bike from Smith Cycle. At Smith Cycle, the winning student can choose the colour, size, style of bicycle that fits their needs and desires.

The Blenheim Terry Fox Run takes place this Sunday, beginning at Memorial Park (near the arena and swimming pool) at 10am. Please come and join the group and continue to keep Terry's dream alive.

Terry Fox Finish It
Wildcat families: Here you will find a poster that we are asking all parents, guardians, grandparents, other relatives, and friends who help with morning drop off to be aware of. Beginning Monday, September 15th, we will be asking that no parents enter onto the school yard during the 9:00-9:15am period. While we know that you are trying to assist your child in getting to the yard and wishing them well, our staff are present and very capable at helping if the need arises. We hope that by sending this change to you now, you will have a week to talk about this with your child and prepare both your child(ren) and yourself for this difference. The same sign will be visible on the fence at the gate for everyone to be able to see. For the afternoon pick up of students in JK. SK and Grade 1, please continue to come onto Area 1 and be able to receive your child(ren) from their teachers on the yard. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation with this change.

Good morning Wildcats!

Once again this year, we have partnered with a local flower grower and distributer, Flowerbed Greenhouses for our Fall Fundraiser. Beginning today, September 5th, running through Tuesday, September 16th. Tickets can be purchased through School Cash Online to redeem for a hearty 9inch fall mum. Once numbers are tallied, the tickets will be sent home with students on Thursday, September 18th, before the weekend. The tickets can then be redeemed any time after receiving them, up to September 30th.

Today, September 5th, each student will come home with an order form. These order forms will stay with you at home and are not necessary to return to school. They should be kept so that if you have had multiple people order to support our school, you have an accurate record of who to get the tickets to once you receive them at home.

Your support in this fundraising campaign is much appreciated. Please reach out to the school office if there is any way that we can help you.
