We learned to hand sew! First, Ms. BridgeArnold taught us 3 different stitches🪡 and then we incorporated those into making a felt pouch and some felt magnets. We also enjoyed some beading in our sewing room. 🧵

As an entertainer, author, and songwriter, Saidat brought more than just talent to our stage—she brought a heart-led mission to build confidence and community in our students. Her message was simple but powerful: One person can make a difference, but together we can change the world. 🌍❤️
Thank you, Saidat, for reminding us of our worth and the power of a smile!

Kudos to Liam for placing 7th and to Mr Nowakowski for his 2nd place finish. Tartans don't let rain 🌧️spoil their enthusiasm 😃

The Horticulture class helped our neighbours with some spring maintenance.

Our Gr. 12 World History class spent an incredible day walking through history and exploring the legacy of freedom seekers and the generations that followed. Between stepping inside the historic 1861 schoolhouse and competing in a high-energy "Amazing Race" challenge across the grounds, the learning never stopped. We even got hands-on making cornbread while discussing its vital role in history.
It was a powerful day of teamwork, culture, and community heritage! ❤️

Our Tartans didn't just talk about Earth Day—they rolled up their sleeves and made a difference!
From flipping the switches to embrace natural light and conserve energy, to hitting the school grounds for a massive yard cleanup, our students showed up for the planet.
How we celebrated:
Energy Conservation: Swapping classroom lights for sunshine. ☀️
Stewardship: Cleaning up our school yard to keep our community beautiful. 🧤
So proud of our Tartans for recognizing how valuable our Earth is and taking real steps to protect it.

Our Health and Wellness SHSM students spent the day at Lorne Henderson Conservation Area with the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority, exploring how nature and innovation go hand-in-hand.
The group started with a healing walk, using their senses to tune into the surroundings. Students tracked their heart rate, breathing, and stress levels before and after—and the numbers proved it. Heart rates and stress levels dropped across the board just by being outside.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to entrepreneurship. Students brainstormed and pitched ideas on an important mission: how to get more youth into conservation areas to improve their mental health.
It was a great day of seeing how getting outdoors can spark better mental health and new ideas!

Our Specialist High Skill Major: Arts & Culture crew spent the day at Sheep Dog Animation Studio.🎞️ They loved learning the ropes of stop motion video and 3D hologram to design new SHSM logos!🖥️

Once again our Working with School Age Children and Adolescents class planned activities for one of our grade 8 classes. There was a big group game of line tag to start followed by several very competitive games of dodgeball. Our exchange students from Brazil had a great time too!

Choosing connection over clicks! ✨ We love seeing our students intentionally stepping away from technology during lunch to explore interactive activities while enjoying one another's company. Tartans prioritizing their well-being!🙌

Today in the library, students took part in a fast-paced book tasting! They rotated through stations, spending two minutes with each selection—books and audiobooks—reading the back covers, skimming pages, or sampling clips, and deciding if it was a “must-read” or a pass.
It was a great way to explore new genres, discover hidden gems, and build their “to-read” lists! 📖✨

Today our Horticulture class had the pleasure of welcoming *Monique from Ginkgo Sustainability*! 🌱
Monique shared her expertise on *green roof assembly, maintenance, system design, and plant selection*, giving students a hands-on look at how sustainable roofing solutions help manage stormwater and support urban biodiversity.
Students even built their own small-scale green roof models to test stormwater absorption 💧🌿 — seeing sustainability in action! To top it off, they had the chance to try on professional work equipment and get a real feel for careers in the green industry.
A huge thank you to Monique and the team at Ginkgo Sustainability for inspiring the next generation of horticulture professionals! 🌎

How do we tackle phosphorus levels in our waterways? Our Grade 9 Science students are on the case! 🕵️♂️✨
We were thrilled to host Mark Northcott from the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority. Thank you, Mark, for sharing your expertise and helping our students turn classroom theory into environmental solutions. 🌊✋
