Congrats Panthers!

The JMSS#57 race car is progressing nicely. The students have removed the flammable materials. They are presently welding in the roll cage, and wiring the fuel system emergency cut off switch. Next, is installing the framing to install the racing seat and 5 point harness anchors.

May is Mental Health Month🌸🌷✨
Thank you to St. John's Ambulance for bringing your sweet pups for our students to pet 🖤🐶🐾
It's so important to teach our students ways to take care of their minds 🧠

The Crafts class visited Mr Barrett's Manufacturing room and learned to round edges and sand wood for our next craft project.

Over the last two days, our Grade 9 Science students had the opportunity to travel to Toronto and Niagara Falls where they explored the science of underwater and terrestrial ecosystems at Ripley’s Aquarium, the Butterfly Conservatory, the production of Hydroelectric Power at the Niagara Parks Power Station and Journey Under the Falls. They balanced all that learning with a little bit of fun taking in a Blue Jays Game, stopping at the arcade while exploring Clifton Hill and an evening walk to take in the Falls light show. It was a great fun filled learning adventure!

Mr. Clarke and the JMSS Concert Band were furiously rehearsing their pieces for Panthers' Palette on Friday, May 9th starting at 6:30 here at JMSS.

Our Grades 9 and 10 students had the opportunity this morning to attend a Career Coaching Workshop. Ontario introduced these workshops giving students more opportunities to explore careers. HIEC works to build stronger connections between educators, employers and students who will make up our future workforce.

Today we commemorate Red Dress Day. In the words of Jaime Black:
"I felt like we all know someone who has experienced violence in her life, women who feel powerless and who don’t have a voice. I had to do something to address that.”
From the Canadian Institutes of Health Research:
"The ongoing crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people that we are facing is a direct result of colonization. In Canada, more than six in ten (63%) Indigenous women have experienced physical or sexual assault in their lifetime. The impact of these disproportionately high rates of violence is felt in all areas of life."

Our next School Council Meeting is Wednesday, May 7, 2025. We hope to see you there!

Panthers' Palette is Friday May 9 from 6:30-8:30pm. This is our annual event celebrating the arts at JMSS. All staff, students, and their families are welcome to attend.
The event starts at 6:30 in the Library for our Art Show. At 7:30, we move to the Fergie Gym for performances by the Concert Band and Drama. We will end the evening with an Awards Ceremony.
We hope to see you there!

Panther Girls Soccer had an amazing day at the Tilbury Tournament! Lots of fun, great competition, and plenty of playing time for everyone. Proud of the team’s hard work and positive spirit on and off the field!

Big smiles 😊 and even bigger high-fives 🖐🏻! Our grade 12 leadership class had an awesome time playing games with students from Victor Lauriston Public School. A fantastic opportunity to see our leaders practice teamwork, communication, and mentorship. It’s inspiring to see our leaders building bridges and making a difference.

The Panthers brought the energy today for the final puck drop at Intramural Hockey.
🏒🏆
For the SECOND MONTH straight, a student team clinched the title! The "rink" or should we say Lahey Gym was buzzing with both excitement and banters. Congratulations to our winning team!
🏒🏆
Will they defend their title in the last intramurals of 2025 or will a staff team snag it back? Catch all that excitement soon for indoor soccer! ⚽️

Sure, we drenched our teachers in ice water - but the real challenge is breaking the silence around mental health. Cold water fades, but awareness sticks. We challenge Victor Lauriston Public School, Queen Elizabeth II Public School, Indian Creek Road Public School, Great Lakes Secondary School, and our Mayor, Darrin Canniff, to take it on next!

For the past month, our staff and students have been having a blast trying to guess which baby photos belong to our staff members! From adorable chubby cheeks to mischievous smiles, it’s been a fun way to bring our school community together.
🍼👶🏼
Thanks to everyone who joined the fun — we loved seeing your guesses and laughter along the way! Congratulations to our winners!
🍼👶🏼
Take a look and guess who these cute faces are.

The grade 11 students in Mrs. Peel's two NBE3C classes were thrilled to be able to meet the Isaac's and learn about Indigenous world views and identity.

It was our honour to host a Powwow Dance Demonstration from Bkejwanong community members, Mike, Nikki and Tyler Dashner, who are well-known powwow dancers across Turtle Island. We learned about powwow culture and dancing, the significance of dance regalia and styles, and about their stories of experiences at powwow demonstrations.

🎣 Grade 9 Geographers dove headfirst into the fascinating world of the Canadian fishing industry today! They went "fishing" navigating the challenges of pollution, the impact of new technology, and even an "invasion" of their waterways.
🌊 It was a hands-on way to understand the complexities faced by this vital industry.
Their learning culminated in collaborative group presentations, where students, acting as their own "fishing crews," shared their insights and proposed solutions for their oceans, lakes and bays.
🗣️ Great teamwork and critical thinking on display!
