AMSS to Host Tech Hub Open House on June 4th

Alexander Mackenzie Secondary School (AMSS) in Sarnia is excited to announce a Tech Hub Open House on June 4th at 6:00 PM, inviting students, families, and community members to explore the innovative Technological Education Hub launching in September 2025.

Starting this fall, the AMSS Tech Hub will provide Grade 10 to 12 students with specialized, immersive, hands-on learning opportunities across a variety of high-demand sectors, including:

  • Construction

  • Culinary

  • Hairstyling and Aesthetics

  • Health and Wellness (Personal Support Worker Program)

  • Horticulture and Landscaping

  • Transportation


    The Hub offers Grade 10 students the chance to explore two technology courses from these sectors alongside core academic courses, while Grade 11 and 12 students can participate in the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program. SHSM allows students to tailor their education toward a specific sector, develop specialized skills, and earn industry-recognized certifications.

“Our new Tech Hub is designed to prepare students for the future with hands-on learning, state-of-the-art facilities, and real-world cooperative education placements,” said Jim Keane, Principal at AMSS. “This Open House is the perfect opportunity to see firsthand the exciting programs and opportunities available.”

The facilities include:

  • Two greenhouses for horticulture and landscaping

  • A construction workspace for large-scale projects

  • An indoor project-based sandbox for practical construction and landscaping skills

  • A commercial kitchen for culinary arts

  • A salon equipped for hairstyling and aesthetics

  • Dedicated academic and clinical spaces for the Personal Support Worker program

  • Fully equipped car lifts for transportation students

The Tech Hub also features double credit course bundles for immersive learning and specially designed math and English courses focused on trade-related applications.
