Mental Health Awareness

To kick off Education Week, we are proud to recognize that May 5–9 is also Mental Health Awareness Week. At LKDSB, we know that positive mental health is foundational to student success. Supporting student mental health is not just a one-time initiative—it is embedded in everything we do.

LKDSB’s mental health professionals provide evidence-informed individual, family, and group support, including counselling and consultation services that help students overcome a variety of barriers to learning. These supports are rooted in strengths-based, skill-building approaches that promote resilience and well-being.

If a student is facing challenges that are impacting their school experience or overall well-being, they are encouraged to reach out. Our mental health professionals work collaboratively with students to develop meaningful plans and solutions. Support is available year-round, with dedicated office hours Monday through Friday during the school year and Monday through Thursday during the summer months.

To access support:

  • Contact the principal of your school to connect with a School Mental Health Professional.

  • Email the Mental Health Lead at MentalWellness@lkdsb.net who can connect you to the appropriate supports.

Mental health is something we all have, and at LKDSB, we actively support its development through:

  • Curriculum integration

  • Systematic training for staff

  • Collaboration with community partners

  • A system-wide Mental Health and Addictions Strategy, guided by our dedicated Mental Health Leader and Superintendent of Education.
