At just five years old, Quinn Sleightholm, a Senior Kindergarten student at Indian Creek Road Public School (ICRPS), is already making a big impact in her community.
Recently, Quinn was recognized as the top individual fundraiser for the Light up the Night for Noelle - CK Edition event, raising an impressive $1,270 for Noelle’s Gift to Children. This inaugural event in Chatham-Kent saw 240 participants cross the finish line and raised over $20,000 to help local children in need.
Noelle’s Gift to Children is an organization that provides essential items for children across the Chatham-Kent and Sarnia Lambton communities, and it was Quinn’s desire to help others that fueled her commitment to this cause. When asked what motivated her to raise such an incredible amount, Quinn shared, "Noelle's Gift helps other kids get the things they need. It is important to me to help other kids, that’s why I wanted to raise money for the run."
This kind-hearted LKDSB'er not only participated in the event, but she went above and beyond, gathering donations from family, friends, and the community. Quinn’s philanthropic efforts were nothing short of inspiring, as she became the top individual fundraiser in an event filled with generous hearts.
When asked if this was something she would consider doing again, Quinn was enthusiastic. "Yes, I would like to do it again because Noelle helps kids and that’s important!”
Her favourite moments from the event? Running with her friends, the cheering crowd, and – of course – the glow sticks.
The Light up the Night for Noelle event also saw some incredible fundraising efforts from teams across the Lambton Kent District School Board.
The top three team fundraisers included:
Indian Creek Road Public School – $3,540
Tecumseh Public School – $2,599
Winston Churchill Public School – $2,275
As for the top individual fundraisers, Quinn’s incredible $1,270 earned her the gold spot, followed by:
John McInnis – $600
Chad Wheeler – $540
Quinn’s dedication and generosity are a true reflection of the values taught at ICRPS and the power of giving back - at any age. Her ability to inspire others to contribute to a cause that will make a difference in the lives of children in need is remarkable—and we are so #LKDSBProud of Quinn for leading by example for her peers and our entire community.
“As a teacher, I see the impact that Noelle’s Gift to Children makes in the lives of children, firsthand,” stated Quinn’s Mom and LKDSB staff Allison Kelly, “I am very proud of Quinn and incredibly thankful to our friends, family and community for helping her to help others.”
Keep an eye on this young philanthropist; there’s no doubt she is "on the road" to making a difference for many more years to come!
