National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

On December 6th, we observe the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day marks the tragic anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre in Montreal, where 14 women lost their lives because of gender-based violence. It is a day to remember those who have suffered and to reflect on the ongoing issue of violence against women.

The Lambton Kent District School Board is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students, staff, and families. On this important day, we stand together to honour the memory of those who have been victims of gender-based violence and to raise awareness about this critical issue.

As we observe this day, we encourage members of our school community to take part in meaningful conversations, reflection, and actions that can help prevent violence against women. Together, we can work towards a future where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, free from violence and discrimination.

We invite our schools to engage in age-appropriate activities, discussions, and moments of silence to acknowledge the significance of December 6th. These efforts will help to promote understanding, raise awareness, and inspire positive change within our community.

In the spirit of remembrance, we also acknowledge the importance of support systems for those who may be affected by violence in any form. Should anyone need assistance or resources, please do not hesitate to reach out to our school support staff, community agencies, or helplines.

Let us unite in our commitment to ending violence against women and creating a safe and equitable society for all.
