The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is seeking applications from local organizations and community members interested in serving on the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) for the upcoming four-year term.
SEAC plays an important role in supporting students with exceptionalities and helping ensure they have access to appropriate special education programs and services. The committee advises and makes recommendations to the Board on matters related to special education, including policies, procedures, program delivery, services, facilities, funding, and the annual Special Education Plan.
Through collaboration between families, schools, community organizations, and the Board, SEAC helps ensure that the voices of students with special education needs and their families are reflected in the development of programs and services that support student success.
Who Can Apply?
LKDSB is inviting applications from:
Local associations or organizations of parents/guardians that operate within the jurisdiction of the Lambton Kent District School Board and are affiliated with provincial associations that:
are incorporated;
operate throughout Ontario;
further the interests and well-being of one or more groups of exceptional children or adults; and
do not represent professional educators.
Community members who are interested in supporting and advocating for students with exceptionalities.
Applicants must be:
Canadian citizens;
At least 18 years of age;
Residents within the Lambton Kent District School Board jurisdiction;
Public school supporters; and
Not employed by the Lambton Kent District School Board.
What Does SEAC Do?
SEAC provides advice and recommendations to the Board regarding the education of exceptional students. Committee members examine and review a variety of topics related to special education, including:
Philosophy and goals;
Policies and procedures;
Program delivery, services, and facilities; and
Funding and resource allocation.
Members are expected to represent the interests of all exceptional students and work collaboratively to support inclusive learning environments and positive outcomes for children and youth across Lambton-Kent.
