Yellow Awareness Ribbon

September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day, a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind one another that help is available and hope is real.

Suicide remains a significant public health concern in Canada and is the second leading cause of death among youth and young adults aged 15 to 34. Many young people experience challenges with their mental health, yet too often struggle in silence.

At the Lambton Kent District School Board, we want every student to know this important truth:

No matter what you are facing, you do not have to face it alone.

Sometimes reaching out can feel difficult, but talking to someone is a sign of strength. Whether it is a parent, caregiver, friend, teacher, principal, coach, guidance counsellor, or another trusted adult, there are people who care and want to help.

Our schools are committed to being places of belonging, care, and connection. Every day, educators and staff work to create safe and supportive environments where students feel seen, heard, and valued. Supporting student mental health and well-being remains a priority across LKDSB.

We All Have a Role to Play

World Suicide Prevention Day reminds us that a conversation, a check-in, or simply letting someone know they are not alone can make a meaningful difference.

Together, we can help create communities where every young person feels connected, supported, and hopeful about the future.
