June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day — a time for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the rich histories, diverse cultures, and enduring contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples. At the Lambton Kent District School Board, this day reflects our ongoing commitment to learning from Indigenous communities and strengthening relationships built on respect, reciprocity, and understanding.
Throughout the year, LKDSB students engage in learning experiences that honour Indigenous knowledge and perspectives. This includes Anishinaabemowin and Lenape language instruction, community‑led teachings, land‑based learning, and participation in events such as Orange Shirt Day, Treaties Recognition Week, and National Indigenous History Month. These opportunities help students deepen their understanding of the past while building meaningful connections to the present.
We are grateful for our partnerships with Aamjiwnaang First Nation, Delaware Nation – Moravian of the Thames, Kettle & Stony Point First Nation, and Walpole Island First Nation (Bkejwanong Territory). Their leadership, guidance, and generosity continue to shape learning across our schools and support our shared journey toward reconciliation.
National Indigenous Peoples Day invites us to reflect, learn, and celebrate — but it also reminds us that this work continues every day. LKDSB remains committed to supporting Indigenous education, uplifting Indigenous voices, and creating learning environments where all students feel seen, valued, and connected.
Miigwech — thank you.
