IDAHTB

Each year on May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOTB) invites us to pause and reflect on the kind of school communities we are building together. At the Lambton Kent District School Board, this day reinforces a core belief that guides our work: every student and every staff member deserves to learn and work in an environment where they feel safe, affirmed, and respected.

Across Canada and around the world, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals continue to experience discrimination, exclusion, and harm. These realities affect students’ well‑being, their sense of belonging, and their ability to thrive. As educators and as a public institution, we have a responsibility to confront these barriers with clarity, compassion, and action.

Our Strategic Priority of Inclusive Diversity: Championing anti‑oppressive education continues to shape this work. It calls on us to examine our practices, challenge inequities, and create spaces where dignity is upheld for all. This commitment is daily, ongoing, and essential to student success.

Throughout June, the Pride Flag will be raised at all LKDSB schools and facilities. This is one visible way we signal our support for 2SLGBTQIA+ students, staff, families, and community members. It is a reminder that everyone deserves to feel welcome, protected, and valued for who they are.

If you have concerns about a student’s safety or well‑being, please connect with your school administration. When we work together — listening, learning, and responding with care — we strengthen our school communities and ensure that every learner has the opportunity to grow without fear or judgment.

Today, and every day, let us continue to lead with empathy, uphold human rights, and build a future where all students and staff can be their full, authentic selves.
