The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is pleased to announce the winning names in the Board‑wide “Name Our Salt Spreader” Contest and extend heartfelt thanks to the entire community for their incredible engagement.

Over the past several weeks, students across the district submitted 83 creative salt spreader names, showcasing school spirit, humour, and imagination. Community voting was open for six days, during which an outstanding 99,160 votes were cast by students, families, staff, and community members.

The winning names are:
Sarnia-Lambton Salt Spreader
Winner: Mr. Melt
Submitted by: Mr. Corver’s Grade 6 Class, Rosedale Public School

Chatham-Kent Salt Spreader
Winner: Ice, Ice, Salty
Submitted by: Mrs. Brown and Mr. Haley’s Kindergarten Class, King George Public School - Chatham

Each winning class will celebrate with a pizza party, and their winning name will be proudly displayed on the appropriate salt spreader’s carrier truck this winter.

“We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who participated—from the students who offered such imaginative entries, the staff that encouraged participation in their classrooms, and to the community members who took the time to vote,” said LKDSB Director of Education, Gary Girardi. “This contest was a fun way to bring our school communities together, and it was wonderful to see such high levels of engagement. Beyond the excitement, this initiative highlights an important investment that strengthens our ongoing commitment to providing safe, accessible learning environments for students, staff, and visitors across the district.”

LKDSB is grateful for the overwhelming support shown throughout this initiative and looks forward to seeing the newly named salt spreaders in action during the remainder of the winter season.
