EQAO

The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is celebrating positive achievement as the latest Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) results reveal consistent growth in student performance over the past four years. Since the province transitioned to fully digital assessments in 2022, LKDSB students have demonstrated significant progress, marking a success story in a post-pandemic learning environment.

When EQAO introduced its digital format, educators faced the challenge of adapting teaching strategies while supporting students through unprecedented disruptions. Four years later, the results tell a powerful story: LKDSB students are thriving. Gains in early literacy and mathematics are particularly noteworthy, reflecting the impact of targeted programming and innovative classroom practices.

Grade 3 Reading has seen the most dramatic improvement, rising by ten percentage points since 2022. This growth underscores the success of early years literacy initiatives and the dedication of staff in building strong foundational skills. Writing and mathematics in the primary division have also advanced steadily, with writing up four points and math up eight points, exceeding provincial trends.

Mathematics achievement continues to be a highlight across divisions. Grade 6 math scores have increased by eight points over four years, while Grade 9 math has surged by ten points.  Even more impressive, the number of Grade 9 students achieving Level 4 has doubled, signaling strong performance at the highest level. Literacy remains a strength as well, with the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test improving by two points since 2022, alongside steady gains in writing at both primary and junior levels.

These results represent the board’s commitment to strategic planning, the hard work of educators, the perseverance of students, and the support of families.

“These results are positive for our students and reflect the incredible work happening at planning tables and in classrooms every day,” said LKDSB Director of Education, Gary Girardi.  “Students, staff and families should be proud of these achievements. We will continue to build on this momentum to ensure every student has the foundational tools to succeed.”
