With Halloween around the corner, we want all the little ghosts and goblins to remain safe.

Here are some safety tips to consider for the adventure that Trick or Treating brings!

Halloween Safety
Our educators have been planning a variety of themed activities for all Zone students tomorrow, Friday, October 30th.

If you wish, your child(ren) can wear their costume to school. Please ensure that costumes are appropriate for school. This includes no masks or face coverings. Please ensure that accessories such as toy weapons (swords, knives, guns) are kept safely at home. Consider that small pieces or parts could easily be damaged or lost at school, and we don't want those missing from their costumes for their Trick or Treating over the weekend.

Looking forward to a "spooktacular" day!

Yesterday, our Cross Country team attended the District Cross Country Meet in Sarnia at Canatera Park. While the team may have been small in the number of participants, the athletes gave it their best.

A "golden" congratulations to our student athlete Nahliyah for her first place finish in the Grade 8 Girls category. This is year four of her bringing home some serious hardware as a show of the training, perseverance, and dedication she has. Way to go!

Today is Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Our bus drivers are an integral part of the world of our students. We know their job is stressful and difficult, at the same time we know how important they are to our students in their daily rides to and from school. Thank you for safely transporting precious goods.

Meat Draw
We are excited to offer a fun opportunity for students, families, and community members. Beginning today using School Cash Online, registration takes place for a fun-filled sign painting evening in November.

You will be able to select from 12 different designs that are offered. You can join the fun at the school, where you will be able to personalize your colour choices OR you can select a 'take home kit' where all supplies will be provided, including the paint colours you see in the example.

Each family will receive information home about this opportunity with their student today, one publication per family. All registration/purchases will be made online through School Cash Online. No forms are required to be returned to the school.

If you have questions about the process or the event, please contact the school office at 519-355-3140.

Within Chatham-Kent, we have so much to be thankful for, including the incredible crops that have grown in the fertile soil. Our hope is that during the Thanksgiving holiday, you will have a chance to gather with family and friends, participate in traditions, and give thanks together. Remember, Monday, October 12th is a holiday, but we will welcome everyone back on Tuesday, October 13th.

Thanksgiving
Thanks to the generosity of some community members, we have two families who will have a locally grown mum plant that will brighten their Thanksgiving this weekend. During a recent school fundraiser where tickets for mums were sold, two generous community members purchased tickets and donated them to the school. In an effort for those to be enjoyed, mums were picked up and placed on display at the office of the school. Then, we entered each student in the school's name in a random generator and landed on two students as the winners and recipients of the mums! Today, these students received the plants to take home for the long weekend! Join us in congratulations Zepplin and Beckham, and Happy Thanksgiving to all Zone families and Bothwell residents.

The Zone students and staff have been engaged in learning about the history behind National Day for Truth and Reconciliation or Orange Shirt Day. As well, we are making commitments as young learners and citizens to honour the history and the lives that the residential schools have impacted. Our work is never done, our learning continues, and EVERY CHILD MATTERS.

As we move further into fall with the tenth month, we really notice changes in the environment. The leaves have begun to change colour and fall from the trees, the air is more crisp, the hours of daylight are lessening, and many animals are getting ready for winter. Welcome, October!

Good morning Zone families: Due to fog, buses are cancelled this morning. If you are able to safely get your child(ren) to school, the buses will run in the afternoon to bring them home. Please travel with extra caution in the foggy conditions this morning.

As part of the LKDSB, Zone is committed to learning about the history of indigenous people in what we now know as Canada. Across our country, September 30th is known as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation or Orange Shirt Day. In addition to encouraging all students and families to wear an orange shirt that day, our educators are committing to helping our students understand the meaning behind this day and actions they can take to honour the many lives which were lost due to residential schools in the past.

SUCCESS! Our students and community did an amazing job at crushing the fundraising goal of $200 by donating a total of $336!!!! And, some students did as many as 15 laps around the school yard during our run this afternoon. Congratulations to everyone for keeping Terry's legacy alive with the hope for better cancer research in the future!

Terry Fox Run
The full moon in September 2026 will peak on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 12:49 p.m. The full moon this month is known as the Harvest Moon because it is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox (which occurred on September 22, 2026).

The moon will appear full and bright for several nights surrounding the peak date. Because it is a Harvest Moon, it rises shortly after sunset with a shorter gap between sunset and moonrise for multiple consecutive evenings.

Knowing how important the agricultural community in Bothwell, and Chatham-Kent, we recognize there may be farmers who are working under the bright light of the harvest moon this season.

We are inching closer to the overall school goal of $200 for our Terry Fox Run tomorrow! If you're able, we would love to collect more donations to help such a great cause and the work that was started by a Canadian hero. Our school run will take place tomorrow, Friday, September 25th beginning at 2:15pm and the weather is forecasted to be PERFECT! Let's go, CRUSADERS! 💙💛

We are grateful for the incredible turnout we had for our Meet the Staff event last evening. It was amazing to have so many students and their families come out to support our school. A special shout out to Angela Richards and Roberta Northmore, two LKDSB trustees who visited and had some meaningful conversations with students, their parents and guardians, and the staff as well. As always, Ms. Crystal from the Bothwell branch of the CK Public Library was a hit amongst the students, engaging them in events at the local library. Thanks to everyone who made last evening successful!
