The Lambton Kent District School Board is thrilled to announce its sponsorship of a brand new category at the upcoming Chatham-Kent Black Excellence Awards. The Black Excellence in Education award will recognize an extraordinary individual whose unwavering dedication, passion, and commitment to education have made a significant and lasting impact on students and the community. This individual embodies the values of excellence, resilience, and leadership, serving as a role model, advocate, and mentor to both students and colleagues.
Nominees for this award are individuals who excel in their professional roles within the education sector, while working to create meaningful change for Black students and communities. They break down barriers to education, ensuring all students have access to the resources, opportunities, and histories they deserve. These nominees demonstrate a profound commitment to cultural awareness, the dismantling of systemic inequities, and the promotion of social justice within the educational system.
The decision to support this reflects the Board’s ongoing commitment to inclusive diversity and the championing of anti-oppressive education. As outlined in the board’s Strategic Plan, LKDSB sought the services of a consultant to conduct a comprehensive Human Resources Equity Audit. This audit reinforced the Board’s dedication to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students and staff.
The Black Excellence in Education award is open to all self-identifying Black staff members, both current and retired, within the Lambton Kent District School Board who have connections to Chatham-Kent. It will be presented to someone who consistently goes above and beyond in their efforts—whether through innovative teaching, community engagement, mentorship programs, or advocacy for underrepresented voices in education. Their contributions inspire future generations and play a vital role in building a more equitable and inclusive educational landscape for all.
Nominations will be accepted until February 1st, 2025, and the recipient will be honoured at the Chatham-Kent Black Excellence Awards held at the Retro Suites in Chatham on March 1st, 2025.
