What an amazing day at our school! 🎶✨ Today, the entire school had the opportunity to enjoy an incredible concert by the Brothers Wilde — and they did not disappoint! The energy, talent, and powerful sound had students and staff fully engaged from start to finish. It was a fantastic experience for everyone in the audience. Our Grade 5 students, along with Grade 5 students from Sir John Moore, Lansdowne, Hanna, and High Park, had an extra special opportunity before the show began. They enjoyed delicious fry bread delight while spending time with the band and learning about the songwriting process. Hearing firsthand how songs are created, where ideas come from, and what inspires musicians was such a meaningful and memorable experience. The concert was outstanding, and the day sparked creativity and inspiration throughout the school — maybe even planting the seeds for some future songwriters and performers! 🎤🎸 Thank you to the Brothers Wilde for sharing your music and your story with us! Also, thank you to the Niigaan Gdizhaami Fund, in partnership with Aamjiwnaang, that enables us to plan these great events.

📚 Learning Through Story & Tradition Ms. Lahey's kindergarten class had the pleasure of working with Ms. Leanne as they created their very own talking sticks. After listening to a story, the children learned that talking sticks come from Indigenous traditions and are used to promote respectful communication. Through this meaningful activity, students explored the importance of listening and patience and learned that everyone’s voice matters. What a wonderful hands-on way to build understanding, respect, and community in our classroom! 💛

We were thrilled to welcome the very talented artist, John Williams to our school this week! John spent time speaking with some of our students, sharing the inspiration, process, and meaning behind the beautiful mural in our front foyer. He then worked alongside our Grade 5/6 Ojibwe class with Mrs. McGee to design snow snakes using Ojibwe Woodland design, encouraging creativity and thoughtful design every step of the way. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn from a talented artist and see art come to life in our school! 🎨❄️

🍿 What an amazing Family Movie Night! 🎬 Thank you to everyone who came out for our screening of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Even though we had a few sound hiccups at the beginning, our families showed patience, good humor, and plenty of excitement — and the night only got better from there. The gym was filled with cozy blankets, PJs, pillows, and lawn chairs, plus the delicious smell of popcorn and drinks in hand. It was wonderful seeing everyone settle in and enjoy a fun, relaxed evening together. ⭐ Fun was had by all — thanks for making it such a memorable night! ⭐

❄️✨ The kindergarten students in Ms. Lahey/Ms. Parson's and Ms. Blakenship’s classes decided it was time to bring a little colour to all this winter white! With so much snow already this season, we took our learning outdoors — painting the snow with bright colours and practicing our letters in the fresh powder. Play-based learning like this helps build early literacy skills, creativity, and confidence. What a beautiful way to brighten up a snowy day! 🌈❄️

Mrs. Moran’s Grade 5/6 class was busy building circuits and learning all about conductors and insulators! ⚡️ Students tested a variety of materials, made predictions, and observed which allowed electricity to flow and which did not. Hands-on learning at its best!

Cold weather didn’t stop the fun at SJM! ❄️ During indoor recess, our students got creative and made the most of their time inside—playing ping pong, crocheting, building fidget spinners, and even dancing! It’s wonderful to see their imagination, teamwork, and positive energy shining, even when the weather keeps us indoors. 😊

Mme Brydges and Mr Findlay’s grade 6/7FI class was fortunate to learn how to create healthy breakfast choices. They collaborated together to make breakfast burritos! A big thank you to OSNP and President’s Choice along with the You’re the Chef program through Lambton Public Health for making this possible!
