LKDSB Alumnus Core Jackson Drafted by New York Yankees

The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is proud to celebrate alumnus Core Jackson, a graduate of Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute (LCCVI), who was selected in the 5th Round (164th overall) of the 2025 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees.

A standout shortstop for the University of Utah Utes, Jackson has been widely recognized as the top baseball prospect from the state of Utah. He recently concluded an exceptional senior season, leading his team in nearly every offensive category and bringing strength to the field with 117 assists on outs and an impressive 25 double plays.

Before his collegiate and professional success, Core Jackson was an outstanding student-athlete at LCCVI in Petrolia, Ontario. He was honoured with the prestigious Stefanko Award (2021), recognizing his excellence in athletics, academics, and extracurricular involvement. During his time at LCCVI, Jackson made significant contributions in volleyball, badminton, basketball, and baseball, laying the foundation for his future in sport.

After beginning his college baseball journey at the University of Nebraska, Jackson played at South Mountain Community College before transferring to the University of Utah, where he earned All-Pac-12 and All-Big 12 First Team honours. He was also a runner-up for the Brooks Wallace Award, recognizing the nation’s top collegiate shortstop.

Now 21, Jackson has been playing with the Sarnia Brigade while completing his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. His recent MLB draft selection marks a significant milestone—not only in his athletic journey, but also for the entire LKDSB community that cheered him on from the beginning.

Jackson is the highest-drafted local player since 2022 and one of just five Canadians selected in this year’s MLB Draft.

At LKDSB, we take immense pride in celebrating the achievements of our alumni. Core Jackson’s journey is a shining example of how LKDSB schools support and nurture students’ athletic, academic, and personal aspirations.

Congratulations, Core! Your LKDSB family is cheering you on every step of the way.
