JMSS Intramurals are in full swing this month with the fast-paced, fan-favorite: Floor Hockey! One of the most beloved sports among our staff, it's no surprise they’ve jumped into the action—three of the ten teams are staff-led, and rumor has it a few teachers have even been subbing in for student teams! 🏒🥅 With the regular season already halfway through, the competition is getting fierce and the energy in the gym is electric. The stakes are high, the goals are flying, and the race to the top is on. Who will rise above the rest and claim the championship? It won’t be last month’s champions, since they are sitting this sport out. 🏒🥅 Stay tuned—this is going to be one thrilling month!

Muskoka Woods 2025
On Sunday a group of 19 JMSS leaders journeyed up to Muskoka Woods for 4 days and 3 nights to support 125 of our incoming grade 8 students in an experience of a lifetime. Despite a blanket of snow and -19 degree temperatures, the leaders persevered to fulfil the task at hand. After receiving leadership and team building training, the leaders jumped right into their role of facilitator, camp councilor and mentor. The JMSS leaders stepped up to every task set in front of them showing impressive resiliency in the face of cold and exhaustion. They were energetic, positive, and encouraging in helping our grade 8s create memories and build experiences that will last a lifetime. In turn, our leaders come back knowing that they can do more than they ever thought they could. Panther Proud!!

Tonight was the opening reception for the "Here I Am" Student Art Show at the Thames Art Gallery. 15 students had their work chosen to be displayed in the gallery. As Matisse said, "Creativity takes courage" and I believe that is clear in the inspiring artworks on display. Thank you to the staff of the Thames Art Gallery for this opportunity! We would like to congratulate two of our talented students on winning awards. Abi King was the recipient of the People's Choice Award and Caleb Lewsaw won the $1000 Thames Art Gallery Scholarship. Congratulations!

RetroFest @JMSS will take place on Monday April 14 during period 3. The Art Department will be collaborating with the BIA and Kent Historical Auto Club to allow students to capture photos of retro vehicles. These photos will be used to create paintings that will be on display at RetroFest in May! We also created vector optical illusion paintings using traffic lights as our inspiration. Check them out!
