Our school has been fortunate to have visits from the St. John's Ambulance Therapy Dog program. The dogs and their handlers visited the students in their classrooms, explained how the program works, and what the dogs can do. Everyone was delighted, and most delighted of all were the dogs who got lots of attention! 🦮🐾🦴

Despite the weather, our Grade 6 through 8 students attended a very informative and engaging field trip today at Buxton National Historic Site and Museum. Students rotated through a variety of learning stations to gain a better understanding of the life and times of residents in the community of Buxton. With this National Historic Site being relatively close to our school and playing such a significant part in history, it was a fantastic opportunity to learn through hands on activities.

We were thrilled with the turnout for our Wellness Event last evening. Families enjoyed different stations, and the fan favourite were the smoothies provided by the BDHS foods class! There were also lots of sweaty folks leaving after they got active in the gym doing different fitness activities. A special recognition to some student volunteers who helped to make the event successful.

Volunteers Needed: In one week, on May 14th, our annual Track and Field meet will take place at the school. A request had been included in the May Newsletter for volunteers to run the concession stand where hotdogs are grilled and sold along with other items such as Gatorade, and chips. In order to make these items available to students and families who are visiting, we need volunteers. Without volunteers to run the concessions, this opportunity won't be available for students and families. Please contact the school office directly if you are able to lend a hand on Thursday, May 15th by calling 519-676-5481. Thanks for your time and consideration,!

All Grade 1-8 students in the school participated in a version of March Madness involving French music. The competition was called "Manie Musicale" celebrating Francophone music from around the world. Students would listen to two songs and then vote on which song they liked best. This is how the artists would progress from one bracket to another and towards the championship. Participating classes Here is a shot of Mme Janisse’s class and Adalynn, grade 1 student, posing  as “Tali," a singer from France.

Students in the Art Club have been working at designing a souvenir button for the 102nd Buxton Homecoming celebration. One lucky student's submission will be used to "Celebrate Buxton's Agriculture" by submitting their design. We are hopeful that perhaps one of our student's creation might be selected.

Some of our students have partnered with the care team and residents from Blenheim Community Village to write penpal letters, participate in holiday activities as well as Earth Day activities. Last year, the students were invited to a tree planting ceremony at the Village. This year, due to illness within the LTC home, this couldn't take place. So, the teachers adapted the plan and decided to do yard cleanup on the Village property as well as the school and neighbouring properties to mix Earth Day and Pitch In Week together. What a great way to show how helpful and capable our students are to the seniors who might not be able to do what they would like to in order to have a safe place to enjoy.

In our JK/SK French Immersion class, they have been learning about Life Cycles!  In science, they learned about the life cycle of a bean 🫘 They know plants need soil, water, and sunlight to grow. They also learned that bees need to pollinate the flowers. They each planted two bean seeds in a bag with a paper towel and water, then stuck them on the window. Once their seeds sprout, they are going to plant them outside in the soil. Every year, they are lucky to have robins build a nest in our classroom window.  The students have had the opportunity to watch the nest being constructed, and they have been patiently waiting for the first egg to appear.  They checked the nest last week when school began and it was empty.   They noticed the female bird sitting in the nest all throughout the morning, so they checked it again at recess... and VOILA... the first egg was there!

The Junior Boys Basketball team ended their season on Wednesday on home court coming out with a win over ICRPS3 with a score of 43-19. This helped the team to earn a 5 and 3 record for their season. The team learned many new skills and developed as a group under the leadership of Mr. Barnard and four grade 8 assistants. The work these leaders put in to practices and games is much appreciated.
