🏅 HISTORY IN MOTION
The starter’s horn sounded at Great Lakes Secondary School—and with it, a new LKDSB tradition was born.
For the first time, 531 elementary student athletes from across our entire bard came together for a unified Track & Field Meet— with representation stretching from Wheatley to Grand Bend.
From powerful sprints to soaring jumps and electrifying relays, the day was filled with determination, sportsmanship, and unforgettable moments. Even more impactful? Students competing alongside peers they’d never met before, building connections that reached far beyond the finish line.
This wasn’t just a meet—it was the beginning of something bigger for LKDSB students.

Our grade 8s are having a great time at Muskoka Woods.

Our grade 5s at Racing Against Drugs. It's a community based drug and alcohol awareness program developed in partnership with the RCMP, local police services, local businesses, representatives of the school boards and local health and drug education agencies. The primary objective of the drug education initiative was to utilize the sport of auto racing to capture the attention of our Grade 5s and communicate with them. Through an exciting and high profile sport, one with no tolerance for substance abuse, students learned about the pitfalls of drugs.

World Autism Day! Autism acceptance represents a shift from focussing on awareness to embracing and understanding the diversity of Autistic and neurodivergent people. Acceptance moves beyond recognition to action, creating environments where people are valued, supported and included.

We had a special celebration this morning recognizing students who demonstrated Excellence in all 6 areas of Learning Skills in Term 1. Special thank you to all the parents who showed up to celebrate this amazing group with the staff! 🤩

Mrs Lyman’s Grade 7/8’s cooking up a storm for their classmates in the “You’re the Chef “ program that is funded by Chatham Kent Public Health Unit!

Thanks to Ms Boakes for our new bulletin board. Looks amazing!

Our Grade 5 students graduated today from the VIP - Values, Influences & Peers Program — an important initiative that supports students in building self-awareness, confidence, and strong decision-making skills, led by Constable Oswald from the Chatham Kent Police Service.
Through meaningful conversations and activities, students explore how personal values shape their choices, how influences (including social media, friends, and role models) impact their thinking, and how to navigate peer relationships in healthy, respectful ways.
A special thank you to the Wheatley Optimist Club for the shirts. Thomas Grubb from the Wheatley Optimists joined the celebration today to present certificates and shirts to the graduates with Constable Oswald.

Warriors are Golden! Our girls basketball team successfully won a tournament at UMEI today! Go Warriors! Congratulations!

Maple syrup tapping is a fun, educational, and easy early-spring activity that teaches kids about nature, where food comes from, and sustainability.
Today our FDK and SK/1 classes took a walking field trip to learn how to tap trees for maple syrup. The best time is when temperatures fluctuate from below freezing nights to above freezing days. We made the best of a great morning.

What a successful Carnavale! Special thank you to Mr Longpré for organizing this special day of fun and to Mrs Dresser and Mrs Olson for the pancakes. Now to cheer on Canada at 1:10 in women's hockey! 🥅🇨🇦
