Today our students and staff at Tilbury Area Public School rocked their funky socks in honour of Down Syndrome Awareness! The bright colours, wild patterns, and mismatched socks were a fun way to celebrate what makes each of us unique.
Funky socks are a symbol of acceptance, inclusion, and celebrating differences, reminding us that our school community is strongest when everyone feels valued and supported.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped spread such an important message today. Our hallways were filled with creativity, kindness, and some truly amazing socks! 🧦✨

🏅 Going for the Gold: Our Mini-Olympics Recap!
Last Friday, our Grade 3/4 classes transformed the gym for our very own Indoor Olympics! From "speed skating" on floor sliders to navigating high-speed "bobsleigh" runs on scooters and mats, our young athletes showed incredible skill and imagination. The day was packed with action as they tackled the biathlon, luge, hockey, curling, ski jumping and more! ❄️
🎉 Potato Olympics Fun! 🥔🥇
Mrs. Brown’s Grade 2/3 class and Mr. Cobb’s Grade 7/8 class teamed up for a hilarious and creative Potato Olympics event! Students brought their imagination to life by designing and naming their own “potato athletes,” each complete with a backstory and unique traits. During the afternoon, these spud-tastic competitors took part in a variety of fun challenges that helped bring learning to life and brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
From rolling races to creative displays of potato skills, our students showed great enthusiasm, teamwork, and school spirit. The event was a wonderful mix of creativity, laughter, and friendly competition! 🥔🎉

🙏Big thanks to our awesome guest from the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo for spending the day with students from Tilbury, Merlin, and Wheatley! 🙌 Through fun, hands-on math challenges, students explored everything from number patterns to base 10, base 60, and even binary systems — and learned that struggling with a tough problem is actually a good thing! 💡 The big message of the day: dig in, stay curious, and be the problem solver! 🔢✨ Thanks again to CEMC for making math come alive! 🍕 A huge shoutout to the Tilbury Royal Canadian Legion Branch 206 for giving students the awesome chance to enter their yearly contests!
Our Grade 8 class earned a pizza lunch for submitting the most entries in the Remembrance Day poster contest! While we enjoyed every slice, we also got to learn more about the Legion’s history, meet some of its amazing members, and share ideas on how TAPS students can get more involved.
🇨🇦 If you haven’t checked out one of the fun events at our local Legion, you should definitely go sometime!

Today our classes joined 21,000 other members of the Lambton Kent District School Board tuning into this year’s student-centered, student-created Black History Month Celebration.
There’s something special about the day the Grade 8 hoodies arrive. It’s more than just a sweatshirt; it’s a symbol of their leadership in our school and the journey they’ve shared together. 💙
We are so proud of the students they are becoming. Seeing them walk the halls in their "Class of" gear reminds us that high school is just around the corner, but they’ll always have a home here!
Tomorrow is Hat Day at Tilbury Area Public School! 🎩🧢 Students are encouraged to wear their favourite or most creative hat to show their school spirit on Thursday, January 29.
