National Ribbon Skirt Day Observed at North Lambton Secondary School!

On Monday, January 5, 2026, North Lambton Secondary School proudly observed National Ribbon Skirt Day with a day of cultural learning and creativity. Melissa Monague from Kettle and Stony Point First Nation visited the school to share the importance and cultural significance of ribbon skirts and ribbon shirts.

Eight classes participated in four engaging learning sessions, where students explored the traditions behind these garments and their role in Indigenous identity and storytelling. With guidance from Mel Shone and Rose Wolfe, students had the unique opportunity to design and create their own ribbon skirts and shirts, bringing the teachings to life through hands-on experience.

This event was a meaningful celebration of Indigenous culture and an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding and appreciation of these traditions.

Students in the Senior Foods classes took part in their Iron Chef competition today. A panel of judges got to taste food from each of the groups and got to decide upon the winner. Some exciting sweet and savoury foods that had ginger as the main ingredient. All groups did a fantastic job, with some very interesting dishes. Kudos to the Ginger bread men that had to swap out their dark chocolate for milk chocolate at the last minute. Great job folks!
