November 11
Dear King George VI Families,

As part of our Remembrance Day ceremonies, we would like to extend the opportunity to families to honour their loved ones as part of a visual presentation we are planning for November 11.

If you have a photo, medals, or anything you would like to showcase to honour and commemorate their contribution to Canada’s war time efforts, we would like to showcase their memory on Remembrance Day. This can include active service members as well. If you also have family who lived through times of war that you would like to honour, you are more than welcome to include their stories and photos too.

Please send a copy of your photos/items to dayna.hoekstra@lkdsb.net or send them to school with your child. We will carefully and respectfully make a copy of your photos/items and return them to you the same day they are brought in.

Please include a little information about your loved one(s) so we can highlight this information with their photo/items:

Family Member’s Name
Who at King George is related to them
Where/when they served
Branch of the Armed Forces they were/are a part of
Any additional details you would like to share

As we commemorate the sacrifices our veterans have made for us as Canadians, we recognize that it can sometimes be difficult for children and young people to connect to events that, in some cases, occurred over 100 years ago. By connecting students with family through their photos and their stories, it allows all of us to see how relevant and important it is to continue to share their stories and make connections to the past.

If you have any questions about the project, please reach out.
Please have your submissions in by November 5th (this Wednesday).

We look forward to honouring your family members on November 11.

Movember at KG!
On Thursday, October 30, paving within the Delaware Ave and Cox Ave intersection is scheduled to occur tomorrow, weather permitting. If it should rain, this will be rescheduled to Friday. Similar to the concrete work that was just completed within the intersection, the contractor will time their work to avoid the school rush hours.

After the paving, the only work remaining near the intersection is some streetlight work that has not been scheduled yet. Once I have more information, I will follow-up with you should that work have any impacts to traffic on Delaware or the school in general.

Dear KG Families.

The construction crew currently working across from the school will be pouring concrete curbs on Tuesday, October 28th. They hope to complete the work between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Please plan your drop off accordingly as the site will be extremely busy prior to the pouring of the concrete. Please remind your child(ren) to stay away from the site, especially if they usually walk around or near Cox Ave. The curb directly in front of the school will also be affected by this construction. If you usually meet your child for pick up after school, please consider an alternate area to meet. Delaware Ave. will be tight for vehicles so it is recommended drivers park further down the street. As always, please keep our bus drop off zone clear for the safety of our students who ride the bus. Your support in helping the construction crew complete their work is greatly appreciated.

Students in Mrs. Benn-Campbell’s and Mrs. Gagner’s classes will receive water bottles this year.

Please note that the water bottles and lids are not dishwasher safe. Please hand wash water bottles.

Thank you, Noelle’s Gift!
