Yesterday, our Grade 5/6 students had the honour of participating in the Healing Walk in Wallaceburg to observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡
Our class joined the local community to walk in solidarity, reflect on the history and legacy of residential schools, and honour the survivors, their families, and the children who never made it home.
It was a powerful morning filled with reflection, learning, and meaningful conversations. We are so proud of our students for showing such deep respect, empathy, and active engagement as we continue our journey toward truth, listening, and reconciliation.
Every Child Matters.

A big congrats to four very deserving students who won a gift card for a free burger at Harvey's! Enjoy your well-earned treat! 🍔🎉
Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, and donated. You should all be super proud of your efforts! 👏✨

September 29th, 2026 - Buses in ALL zones are CANCELLED this morning due to fog. Buses will run as normal in the afternoon. Please drive carefully!

It was so lovely catching up, introducing ourselves, and seeing so many smiling faces in our halls. We are so grateful for our vibrant community and your continued support in making our school such a warm, welcoming place to learn and grow.
A special shoutout to everyone who supported the Book Fair—you’re helping foster a love of reading that lasts a lifetime! 📖❤️
For those who weren't able to join us, we completely understand! We know how busy family life can be and missed seeing you. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you ever need anything or want to say hello.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic school year together! 🏫🌟

On September 30th, we wear orange to honor the survivors of residential schools and remember the thousands of children who never made it home.
Orange Shirt Day grew out of Phyllis Webstad’s story. At six years old, she arrived for her first day at the St. Joseph Mission Residential School wearing a bright new orange shirt bought by her grandmother—only to have it stripped away. Her story is a powerful reminder of the systemic attempt to erase Indigenous culture, language, and family bonds, and the lasting impact it left on generations.
Wearing orange isn't just about a shirt; it’s a commitment to learning, listening, and taking active steps toward reconciliation.
Please consider wearing orange on September 30th.

Our annual Terry Fox run on Monday, September 28th. The rain date will be on September 29th. Please send your child in appropriate clothing and shoes for running on this day.
You can donate to the Terry Fox foundation to support cancer research by following this link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/134488/donate, or by making a donation through School Cash Online.

We can’t wait to welcome our school family back! Join us tomorrow, Thursday, September 24th, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM to meet your child’s teachers and kick off a great school year together.
We are so looking forward to seeing everyone there!

A huge shout-out to a few talented students from Room 6 who spent time creating a bright, vibrant bulletin board for everyone to enjoy. Not only is it bursting with color, but it also shares a wonderful message that brightens up the whole hall.
Next time you're walking by Room 6, be sure to stop, take a look, and admire their hard work!
Way to go, Room 6! 🌟✨

The starter’s horn sounded at Great Lakes Secondary School—and with it, a new LKDSB tradition was born.
For the first time, 531 elementary student athletes from across our entire bard came together for a unified Track & Field Meet— with representation stretching from Wheatley to Grand Bend.
From powerful sprints to soaring jumps and electrifying relays, the day was filled with determination, sportsmanship, and unforgettable moments. Even more impactful? Students competing alongside peers they’d never met before, building connections that reached far beyond the finish line.
This wasn’t just a meet—it was the beginning of something bigger for LKDSB students.
