We are in urgent need of a host for a grade 10 Spanish girl who is coming to GLSS for 4 months in September. Great Lakes was her first choice for school placement. She is from Madrid, and she is often described as kind, thoughtful and hardworking. She is passionate about basketball. She plays basketball in Spain several times a week. She dreams of trying out for a school team in Canada. Outside of basketball she is also very interested in art, dance, fashion, tennis, volleyball, and skating. Unfortunately, she is allergic to animals which has made finding a placement very challenging. She hopes that her homestay will include her like a family member.
We are in urgent need of a host for a grade 11 German girl who is coming to study for 3 months. She dreams of becoming a geneticist so she can use her knowledge to help people with genetic disease. She loves biology but she also likes art. She enjoys playing board games, reading and watching Netflix series. She hopes that she can share many wonderful moments with her homestay family. She is very excited to experience nature in Canada.
We also have students from the following countries who are interested in Great Lakes
Italian girl – 1 semester- Grade 12 - she is described as funny, joyful, curious, determined, independent and brave. She rarely says “no” to new experiences because she always wants to stay positive and try new things. She believes a study abroad experience is perfect for her.
Turkish boy- full year- Grade 11- This young man loves all sports, but his favorite are basketball, soccer, and table tennis. He is interested in helping with cooking and learning about family traditions. He dreams of building a strong connection with his homestay family. He is strong academically and his goal is to complete high school in Canada and then continue to university. He is interested in engineering and technology-related fields.
If you are interested in hosting an international student, or if you have any questions, please contact Kirsten Ramsay at kirsten.ramsay@lkdsb.net.

🚀 Exciting Opportunities with LKDSB’s Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Program!
Students at Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) have the chance to gain hands-on experience and industry-recognized certifications through the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program. Open to Grade 11 and 12 students, SHSM allows them to explore career pathways in sectors like Construction, Agriculture, Manufacturing, and more—all while earning their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Through sector-specific courses, cooperative education placements, and certifications such as First Aid/CPR, Forklift Training, and Working at Heights, students develop valuable skills that prepare them for the workforce, apprenticeships, college, or university. Completing the program also earns them a Red Seal designation on their diploma, highlighting their specialized training.
Each LKDSB school tailors its SHSM offerings to student interests, providing opportunities to connect with industry professionals and local businesses. The program is completely free for families and helps students explore potential careers before they graduate.
