LKDSB Participates in Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week November 22-26

November 19, 2021

The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is participating in Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week from November 22-26, 2021 to help promote safe, welcoming and inclusive learning and work environments.

During this week, students, staff and parents/guardians are encouraged to learn more about bullying and its effect on student learning and well-being, as well as awareness and prevention strategies.

Bullying is typically a form of repeated, persistent, and aggressive behaviour that occurs in a context of real or perceived power imbalance between individuals. Bullying can be represented in various forms – physical, verbal, social and electronic. This behavior has a negative impact on a student’s well-being and ability to learn and compromises the overall school climate.

To report bullying, students are encouraged to share information with a caring adult at home or at school. Parents/guardians and students are also able to share concerns using the Student Wellness and Bullying Intervention Hotline at each school.

“It is important for students to identify and report incidents of bullying to a caring adult at home or at school as we know this behaviour can have significant impacts on a students’ ability to learn and feel safe at school,” said Director John Howitt. “Throughout the school year, but particularly during Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, we focus on lessons to increase awareness and understanding of the different forms of bullying and reminders about prevention strategies and reporting. Together, we can support safe, positive and welcoming learning environments for all.”
