Name Our Sal Spreaders

The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is pleased to announce the addition of two new salt spreaders to support winter maintenance across our school communities. This investment reflects LKDSB’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, accessible learning environments for students, staff, and visitors.

In recent years, winter weather patterns across Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent have created challenging conditions on playground tarmac, sidewalks, and blacktops. The introduction of two salt spreaders will allow our Facilities Services teams to respond more quickly and effectively to freezing conditions across all LKDSB sites. With dedicated machines serving the north and south regions, schools will benefit from timely snow and ice treatment—reducing instances of overnight freeze‑ups, improving traction on playgrounds, and ensuring greater accessibility throughout the winter and early spring thaw.

“This is a smart and proactive investment that supports the safety and well‑being of our students and staff,” said Associate Director Brian McKay. “These machines will significantly enhance our ability to respond to changing weather conditions and maintain safe school environments across the district.”

To celebrate the arrival of the new equipment, LKDSB is launching a fun and engaging Board‑wide challenge: the “Name Our Salt Spreader” Contest, open to all LKDSB classes.

Each class may submit one creative name for consideration. Submissions will be posted publicly on the LKDSB website, where the community can cast votes for their favourite entry.

Two winning names will be selected:

  • One for Sarnia-Lambton

  • One for Chatham-Kent

The classes whose names receive the most community votes will win:
