1) Special Olympics Basketball - Last week our Basketball Team travelled to Ottawa to take part in the Special Olympics Provincial Championships. It was an event that saw over 1000 athletes from across Ontario, including some schools from out of province. The tournament lasted two days with intense competition the entire way.
We finished with a 2-1 record in the placement round beating teams from Ottawa and Belleville. The following day is when the real competition began. Our Eagles dominated the round robin with a record of 3-0. This record put us firmly in first place going into the medal round. Our Eagle's came out strong and cruised to a victory in the semi final round.
It was gold medal time. We came out very strong, but the shots just weren't falling. In a defensive battle against Fellowes Secondary School from Ottawa, our Eagle's were down at halftime by a score of 6-2. Our athletes came out an entirely different team in the 2nd half. We dominated on defense and the points started coming. We scored 10 unanswered points to take a 12-6 lead. Fellowes scored a late basket but it wasn't enough. Our Eagles won gold!!
Congrats to Quinton B, Nate W, Emma S, and Lucas S on an amazing tournament. These guys represented NLSS the best possible way! (Mr. King)

6) Good morning Eagle sports fans! Last Thursday and Friday your Senior Girls soccer team competed at OFSAA against the best teams in Ontario. The girls lost their first game 4-0 to the eventually bronze medalist. They lost their second game 2-1 in a very close game. Kylee B scored a beautiful goal for your Eagles. The Eagles rallied for Game 3 and were led by 2 goals by Lily H and a shut out from Paige P. The girls would lose their fourth game 2-0 and would be eliminated from playoff contentions. Mr. Wilson is extremely proud of the effort and team spirit shown this weekend in Welland and all season. Congratulations on an amazing season girls. You all should be very proud of yourselves.
