1. National Indigenous History Month – June marks the beginning of National Indigenous History Month here in Canada. This is a dedicated time for all of us to honor the history, heritage, diversity, and incredible resilience of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples across Turtle Island.
Throughout the month, we will be highlighting extraordinary Indigenous Canadians who have fundamentally shaped our country’s history, culture, science, and rights.
2. Volunteer Opportunity – Bosanquet is looking for student volunteers. Family Fun Night will be taking place on June 3 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the school. They are looking for volunteers to help make this event a success. We need help with: Running games and activities, setting up before the event, cleaning up afterward. Sign up in Student Services if you would like to help.
3. This announcement is for all of those going on the Germany, Italy and Switzerland Trip in July. (There will be an important parent meeting on June 3 in the cafeteria from 6-7 pm. Students and parents/guardians should both plan to attend.)
4. Sports Romance stories have been very popular lately. Check out the visual announcements to see teen friendly football romance books available in the library. (Miss Syer)
5. Eagles Track – On Friday five Eagles flew to Cambridge for the second day of competition at the OFSAA West Region Track and Field meet. Skyla W and Arlee R both competed in the 800 M rate and finished 11th and 8th respectively. Colton P ran the grueling 3000 Metres and finished 11th. Arie R narrowly missed a second OFSAA bid bowing out in the high jump at 1 metre 75 centimetre and he finished 6th. The athlete of the day was Josh S who ran his best race of the year in the Mens 800 metres and finished 4th and qualified for OFSAA in St. Catharines this week. Congratulations Josh. Good luck to Arlee R, Josh S and Arie R as they compete for OFSAA gold this week in St. Catharines. (Mr. Willemse)
6. Attention NLSS students…its letter award time!!! Letter awards are earned each year by students who meet the requirements: Students in all grades are eligible to earn an award if you have participated in three clubs or teams this year and have a 75% average. Forms can be picked up on the main foyer at lunch this week. Letter award forms MUST be completed and returned to Mrs. Sanders by MONDAY June 8th at lunch.
7. Athletic Awards (June 9, Period B) – Attention all Eagles athletes! The Athletic Awards ceremony is coming up on Tuesday, June 9th. Please come to the main foyer at lunch this week to pick up your ticket, as you will need it to be excused from class. We hope to see you there! Please see Kaydence G, Addison N or Mr. Wilson if you have any questions.
8. Girls Soccer – A reminder to all players that your jerseys are due back to Mr. Wilson sometime this week please.
9. Volunteer Opportunity – The Forest Legion is having a Fish Fry, June 5th. They are looking for 5-6 volunteers to help out and to earn volunteer hours. Please see Student Services if you can help out!
10. Cultural Market – Last week, the grade 11 Food and Culture class hosted a Cultural Market for staff and students to learn about different countries and cultures around the world. The students did a fabulous job on their research, visual displays, and food samples to taste. Thank you to all staff and students who made their way up to the third floor to explore the market. We hope you enjoyed the atmosphere, music, displays, presentations, and food samples. (Mrs. Hoskin)
11. Concert Band will rehearse after school today and Wednesday in preparation for Music Night on Thursday.
12. Lambton County High School Art Show – Art students from NLSS recently participated in the annual Lambton County High School Art Show at The Lawrence House, representing our Visual Arts department exceptionally well. Competition was especially steep this year. Although our participants did not take home the top prizes, they deserve high praise and recognition simply for being selected. (Please visit the lobby to view our students’ talented artwork.
13. Music Dept Update: Attention Music Students. Music Night will be on Thursday, June 4th. Concert Band will rehearse on Monday and Wednesday after school this week and next week in preparation. The teacher/student Relay band will rehearse today at lunch. (Mr. MacDougall)
14. Girls’ rugby players are reminded to return their jerseys and shorts to Ms. Haisman or Ms. Simic by the end of this week (Names were indicated on the announcements today. Also, sweater orders must be in by June 3! Check the Google Classroom.
15. Announcements – Attention all students! If you are interested in doing the morning announcements for next year, please visit the office to submit your name. We will be auditioning for the part in June. Thank you to Megan and Amber for doing the announcements all year.
