1. 1. Black History Month – an annual celebration to commemorate the achievements of Black Canadians and their communities who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada a culturally diverse, compassionate, and prosperous country.
2. 2. Rosemary Brown – born 17 June 1930, was a politician whose personal experiences of racism and sexism fueled her passionate international advocacy efforts and lifelong fight for equality and human rights. She was born in Jamaica and moved to Canada in 1951. Elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in 1972, Brown became the first Black woman in Canada to sit in a provincial legislature. Brown made history once again as only the second woman (and the first Black woman) ever to run for leadership of a federal political party. Her years of community service earned her numerous distinctions, including the Order of Canada, and honorary degrees from many Canadian Universities.
3. 3. International Day of Women and Girls in Science – an annual observance adopted by the United Nations General Assembly to promote the full and equal access and participation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Field. 4. 4. Yesterday your Eagles participated in the annual LKSSAA Wrestling tournament in Sarnia. The event was a touch delayed due to issues outside of our control. However, once the Eagle’s took to the mat things began to get real! Your Eagle’s showed grit, determination and control. To qualify for SWOSSAA you must place top four in your category. Moving on to SWOSSAA are:
Addy S – 4th place, Kaydence D – 4th place, Bryson RC – 3rd place, Carter B – 3rd place, Alexia C – 3rd place, Daphne F – 3rd place, Brody B – 3rd place, Keilan S – 3rd Place, Bailey D – 3rd place, Eddie M – 2nd place, Danica C – 2nd place, Jordan A – Gold Medal, Austin D, Gold Medal. Incredible job by all as you just went through one of the largest LKSSAA events ever – over 240 wrestlers taking part. Amazing.
5. 5. This year’s Muskoka Woods Trip will be the second week of April. Please get your leader application forms in by the end of the week!. Any questions, see Mrs. Sanders.
6. 6. There is a Royal Canadian Legion Public Speaking Contest that will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026. If you are interested in registration for Junior/Intermediate/Senior will be at 2-2:30 pm in the Lounge. Speaking to start after registration is complete. You will need to Pre-register before February 15, 2026 by email. Fill out public speaking entry form and email to: vlcekjoyce@gmail.com.
7. 7. Who wants to play Badminton? Friday after school from 2:30-4:00 the gym will be available for anyone who would like to play.
8. Music students who would like a shirt or sweater with either of these logos should see Mr. MacDougall for an order form. Sample sizes will be in later this week. Orders are due by Fri. Feb.
9. 9. Drama Club will meet on Friday after school from 2:30 to 4 to rehearse for the Variety Show.
10. 10. Graduation students…the applications for the YMCA Celebration of Youth Awards is open! There are many different awards to pick from, everyone is eligible. Check out our Google classroom for graduates to get the link.
11. 11. Adventures in Citizenship Conference in Ottawa. The Grand Ben Rotary Club is looking to sponsor a student to attend a citizenship conference in Ottawa this May. You must be between 16 and 18 years of age. See Mrs. Petrus for more information.
12. 12. Jazz Band will rehearse today at lunch and Concert Band will rehearse Wednesday after school. New members are welcome.
13. 13. Students in grade 10, we are looking for someone to go to the HOBY Youth Leadership conference April 30-May 3rd. See Mrs. Petrus for more info! Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership organization’s mission is to motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference within our global society through understanding and action, based on effective and compassionate leadership.
14. 14. The Chess Club will meet in Room 184 on Wednesday, February 11th and Friday the 13th! Never played chess? Want to learn? We can teach you! All are welcome. (Mr. Singh)
15. 15. Optimist Basketball – Attention all students for volunteer hours and like to play basketball. The Optimist Club is running their annual basketball camps starting Monday, March 23. The Grade 7-8’s will be on Monday nights and the Grade 5-6’s will be on Thursday nights. Helpers are needed for both groups. Please see the sign up sheet outside the Boys’ Phys. 16. 16. Boys’ Hockey – Good morning Eagles Sports Fans! Yesterday your Boys’ hockey team finished their regular season schedule with a dominant 9-0 victory over Great Lakes. Mason G made a few big saves early which propelled the Eagles to fill the net at the other end. Miller G had the hot stick for the forwards and scored 4 goals. Colten P would score 2, Nathan L, AJ W and Ben W would also add singles. Great game boys, we are in a great spot heading into the LKSSAA semi finals next week.
