5) Basketball Players: Hoodies and dryfit shirts will be ready this week, which means money for these is due!
6) For the month of December, if you borrow a book recommended by Miss Syer or Ms. Herrington, you will be entered into a draw for a prize. Stop by the library to find out how to participate.
7) Iron Chef Competition:
Last week the grade 12 Foods class competed in the NLSS Iron Chef Competition. Each group had to prepare a savoury and a sweet within a certain time frame and present their dishes to a panel of judges. Congratulations goes to Zain E and Jordon A on winning the first competition using the secret ingredient tortillas. Congratulations goes to Lily H, Ava B, and Brooklyn M on winning the second competition using the secret ingredient ginger.
A special thanks to all the staff members who helped out by being judges. This competition wouldn’t be possible without your support! (Mrs. Hoskin)
8) Alien RPG on Dec. 19th. Want to do something different next Friday afternoon? Imagine yourself on a colony in space about to be overrun by xenomorphs, trying to survive! Sounds fun…right?Right?? If it does find Mr. Singh and sign up. We have room for 4 players. Never played an RPG? No worries it’s fun and easy. But remember: in the cold emptiness of space no one can hear you scream. Have a nide day!!:) (Mr. Singh)
9) Intramural Girls Volleyball League – An intramural girls volleyball league will be starting for anyone looking to play organized volleyball after school. This will run on Wednesdays from 2:30-4:00 starting December 17. All players of all abilities are welcome – gym shoes are required. A sign up sheet is posted outside of the Girls Phys Ed Office, see Mrs. Cundick if you have questions.
10) Eagles Chess Club – This week we shall meet today and Friday, December 12. Don’t forget to download a chess clock to your phones. Come and join us in the “King’s Game”! All are welcome – beginners and experienced players. (Mr. Singh)
11) Eagle Cup Floorball Tournament – schedule is posted on the whiteboard in the gym outside of the boys’ locker room. Make sure you know when your team is playing and show up on time for your games. The tournament begins on Thursday at lunch.
12) Grad photo sessions are coming back in January 19-20. Location: Library Career Centre. Schedule your session at schedule.prestigeportraits.ca or phone Prestige Customer Service 1-888-676-1647
13) Special Olympics Basketball – Last week our Eagle’s Special Olympics basketball team travelled to St. Pats to compete in the basketball qualifier. NLSS was represented well by our outstanding group of athletes.
We began the tournament with a dominant win over Great Lakes Secondary School thanks to big play under the basket by Quinton B and Nate W.
Our next battles were against two different Alexander Mackenzie Secondary School teams. We ended up winning the first matchup thanks to a beautiful short form Lucas S to keep AMSS out of reach. The 2nd AMSS team proved to be a difficult matchup. There were several lead changes during the game. Josh and Emma S used their speed to keep us in the game. This very exciting game ended in a tie thanks to a last second shot to tie up the game. Thank you to our extended coaching staff of Dylan T, Phoenix G, Ryder M and Kaydence D who cheered our team on the whole way. Way to go Eagles! (Mr. King)
