1) International Volunteer Day –
International Volunteer Day recognizes volunteers worldwide and all they do in making peace and sustainable development a reality.
This year, under the inspiring theme “Every Contribution Matters,” International Volunteer Day takes on historic significance as it marks the official global launch of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development. This milestone calls for a worldwide movement to recognize and amplify the vital role of volunteers in accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Volunteers create a richer culture of service within their communities. They help bridge the gap between generations and support sustainable development.

2) National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women –
On December 6, 1989, an armed man killed 14 women, and injured 13 other individuals at Polytechnique Montreal. This act of violent misogyny shook our country and led Parliament to designate December 6th as The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day is about remembering those who have experienced gender-based violence and those who we have lost to it. It is also a time to take action. Achieving a Canada free from gender-based violence requires everyone living in this country to educate themselves, their families and communities on gender-based violence, centre the voices of survivors and speak up against harmful behaviours.
3) St. Nicholas December 6th – St. Nicholas Day is a feast day celebrating Saint Nicholas of Myra, observed on December 5th or 6th in Western Christianity. It is celebrated as a Christian festival with particular regard to Saint Nicholas’ reputation as a bringer of gifts, as well as through the attendance of church services. Traditions include children placing their shoes out overnight to find them filled with small gifts and sweets.
