delf

This spring, Grade 8 students at our school participated in a mock DELF assessment, launching an exciting pilot project aimed at enhancing French language learning and confidence.

The DELF, or Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française, is an internationally recognized certification awarded by the French Ministry of Education. It evaluates students’ proficiency in French across four key areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The DELF is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and our Grade 8 students challenged Level A2, which represents an elementary level of language proficiency.

This mock assessment gave students a valuable opportunity to experience the structure and expectations of the official DELF exam. Over several weeks, students engaged in activities and assessments that mirrored the real exam, helping them build both skill and confidence in their French abilities.

The pilot was a great success, with students showing enthusiasm and pride in their accomplishments. Their teacher observed increased engagement and deeper understanding of the language. Based on this positive experience, we are excited to announce our intention to offer the mock DELF to all Grade 8 students next year.

It’s also worth noting that Grade 12 students in the Lambton Kent District School Board are offered the opportunity to challenge the official DELF exam, where successful candidates receive international accreditation for their French language proficiency. This certification can be a valuable asset for post-secondary education and future career opportunities.

Congratulations to our Grade 8 students for their hard work and dedication—you’ve set a strong foundation for future language learning and success!
