As North Lambton Secondary School (NLSS) wrapped up another successful school year and headed into summer break, the school community is taking time to celebrate one of its most meaningful accomplishments of the 2025/2026 school year: the 10th anniversary of Relay for Life. This year’s event marked a decade of student leadership, compassion, and commitment to supporting Canadians affected by cancer.
Relay for Life has become a defining NLSS tradition since its first event in 2017. Each spring, the student Relay Committee dedicates months to planning, organizing, and leading the 12‑hour event — and their efforts continue to make an extraordinary impact. This year, final tallies indicate that NLSS raised an astonishing $40,690.95, surpassing its fundraising goal and bringing the school’s ten‑year total to an incredible $372,285 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
These funds help provide care, hope, and vital research for individuals and families across Canada, reflecting the heart of NLSS’s Relay tradition: honouring survivors, supporting loved ones, and remembering those lost.
The event featured NLSS’s most cherished Relay traditions, including the survivor’s lap, where cancer survivors lead the opening circuit, and the luminaries ceremony, where glowing tributes spelled out HOPE and CURE across the soccer field. Students also enjoyed music, activities, and community challenges — including the crowd‑favourite ice‑bucket moment featuring brave administrators.
Relay preparations begin each March with the annual Relay Rally, which introduces new students to the cause, builds excitement, and launches fundraising efforts. The culminating event on the final Friday of May has become a highlight of the NLSS school year, and a celebration the community proudly carries into summer.
As NLSS reflects on the achievements of 2024–25, the Lambton Kent District School Board extends its appreciation to the school’s Relay Committee, participating students, staff volunteers, and community supporters. Their dedication continues to make Relay for Life a powerful tradition of hope, action, and impact.
