Return to school for students delayed to Wednesday, January 5, 2022

December 30, 2021

Dear Students, Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

The Ontario government has announced a delayed return to school for students following the holiday break to Wednesday, January 5, 2022 for all elementary and secondary students, including those in the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As such, there will be no instruction provided for students registered in any LKDSB programs on Monday, January 3 or Tuesday, January 4, 2022. We are sharing this information as soon as possible as we understand that families may be required to make alternative childcare arrangements.

This decision is a proactive measure by the Government of Ontario to support the health and well-being of Ontarians due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority for the LKDSB.

The LKDSB continues to gather information and will follow directions from the Ministry of Education and local and provincial public health officials.

Upon the return to school on Wednesday, January 5, please note the following updates:

  • The daily COVID-19 School Screening Assessment tool has been updated. Please continue to complete and follow the directions of the COVID-19 school and child care screening.
  • Confirmation of completing the daily school screening assessment will continue to be required beginning Wednesday, January 5 for students participating in-person learning for at least the first two weeks of the school year (January 5-January 14, 2022). Please continue to follow the instructions provided by your child's school.
  • Information about what to do if you've been exposed to COVID-19 is available here.
  • Public Health case and contact management for schools has changed. LKDSB will continue to follow any directions provided by local Public Health officials.
  • The COVID-19 reporting requirements for school boards will be updated.
  • Starting in January, temporarily permitting only low-contact indoor sports and safe extra-curricular activities. LKDSB is currently reviewing the information from the Ontario government and additional information will be provided to schools as soon as possible.

LKDSB continues to take direction from the Ministry of Education and local and provincial Medical Officers of Health.

All safety protocols currently in place will continue when face-to-face learning resumes for elementary and secondary students. The LKDSB will continue to follow its regular practice of exercising high standards of cleanliness in its facilities.
