Best wishes for a safe and healthy school year

September 09, 2020

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) staff is looking forward to welcoming students back to school for a safe start to the 2020-2021 school year. We know that this year will look different from previous years, but our staff remains committed to supporting safe, welcoming and positive school environments for students.

As we reopen our schools, we are following the Ministry of Education guidelines, as well as the directions of Chatham-Kent and Lambton Public Health. For families participating in Learn at Home instruction, we look forward to connecting virtually with you and continuing to support your child's learning remotely.

Supporting Healthy Schools

We all play a part in supporting healthy and safe school communities. The LKDSB's Reopening Our Schools plan is a shared responsibility between LKDSB staff, local Public Health, family households, students and Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services. Working together, we can mitigate the risk of COVID-19 in schools and support the health and well-being of students and staff.

Chatham-Kent and Lambton Public Health have been closely involved with LKDSB in its planning for reopening our schools and we continue to take direction from the local public health authorities, as well as the Ministry of Education, as we return to school. Additional information is available on their respective websites: Chatham-Kent Public Health/Lambton Public Health

Daily self-assessments are required for all students and staff prior to attending school. Our public health partners have created a one-page Daily Screening Questionnaire for Parents/Guardians/Students Before Attending School.

LKDSB has created COVID-19 advisory web pages on the Board and school websites, where information will be posted in the event there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 that involves a student or staff member.

Reminder: Masks are required for students in Grades 4-12. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 are encouraged, but not required, to wear masks at school. Parents/guardians should provide non-medical masks or cloth masks for their children to wear to school. The LKDSB will provide backup non-medical masks for students who do not have their own.

Parent/Guardian Return to School Resources

To help families with the transition to school, we have created a parent/guardian website with information and resources, including the daily screening questionnaire; a Parent/Guardian Return to School Checklist; COVID-19 Procedures; videos and public health resources, etc. Click here to access the parent/guardian resources.

Although there are many differences this year, one thing remains the same – we are here to support your child's education and well-being.

We wish you the best for a safe, healthy, and successful school year.

Sincerely,
John Howitt
Director of Education
