Update for students regarding potential St. Clair and Lambton College labour disruption on Oct. 16

October 13, 2017

Ontario's college faculty (as represented by OPSEU) is currently engaged in contract talks with the College Employer Council.  At this point in time, a deal has not been reached. As such, Monday, October 16 has been set as the earliest time that a legal strike or lockout could potentially begin at all 24 public colleges in the province, including St. Clair and Lambton College.

Dual Credit Program

Should a job action occur, the Lambton Kent District School Board's Dual Credit Program would be suspended for the duration of the labour disruption. Dual Credit classes would resume once the job action has ceased.

Our partners at Lambton and St. Clair College are working diligently to put plans in place to ensure that students' achievement is not negatively impacted by any strike or lockout situation.

SWAC Program

SWAC classes would continue throughout any labour disruption.  However, they would be relocated from the College campus.  Tentative plans have been made to relocate students to the following locations in the event of a labour disruption:

  • Lambton College Secondary SWAC – Adult Education (660 Oakdale Avenue, Sarnia)
  • Lambton College Adult SWAC – Adult Education (660 Oakdale Avenue, Sarnia)
  • St. Clair College Secondary SWAC – Chatham Kent Secondary School, Room 105 (285 McNaughton Ave E, Chatham)
  • St. Clair College Adult SWAC - Chatham Kent Secondary School, Room 204 (285 McNaughton Ave E, Chatham)

If the faculty or college proceeds with a strike/lockout on Monday, or any time thereafter, students will be notified via Remind to report to the alternate learning sites.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Janice Wranich, Special Projects Teacher, Dual Credits at Janice.Wranich@lkdsb.net.

Options Program

Additionally, in the event of a labour disruption, the Options Program at St. Clair College will be temporarily relocated to Chatham-Kent Secondary School. The Transportation Department has made arrangements for the bus to reroute, as necessary. The program will be held at Chatham-Kent Secondary School for the duration of the strike.

Anyone with questions or concerns about the Options Program is encouraged to contact Sandra Perkins, System Coordinator for Special Education, at sandra.perkins@lkdsb.net or 519-336-1500, Ext. 31478.
