On November 11th, the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) will join communities across Canada in solemnly commemorating Remembrance Day—a day dedicated to honouring those who served and sacrificed during times of war, as well as those who continue to serve in peacekeeping missions around the world. In schools across the LKDSB, students and staff will take time to pause, reflect, and participate in various activities designed to foster understanding and respect for the sacrifices made.
Recognizing Remembrance Day in the classroom is not only an important moment of reflection, but also an opportunity to engage students in meaningful discussions about the values of peace, freedom, and sacrifice. Leading up to this day, staff will lead thoughtful lessons that help students to understand the significance of Remembrance Day beyond the classroom. On Monday, November 11th, many schools will host assemblies, where students will hear from veterans, share poems and stories, and observe moments of silence.
In addition to assemblies and lessons, schools will commemorate Remembrance Day through a variety of creative activities, including art displays, writing projects, and musical tributes. These activities offer students a way to express their appreciation for the courage and dedication of those who have served, while also helping to keep the memory of these sacrifices alive for future generations.
