Dear Lansdowne Public School Families,
This letter is to notify you of a recent incident involving racist and anti-Semitic graffiti on school property.
Please note that the LKDSB takes all forms of racism and discrimination seriously and is committed to supporting safe and caring learning environments for all students. Sarnia Police was contacted regarding this incident and the LKDSB is working with Building Services to remove the graffiti.
The LKDSB believes a safe and caring learning environment is strengthened by embracing diversity, and respecting self, others and the world around us. This is at the core of our values as an organization and informs the decisions and practices of our Trustees, administration and staff. It is also foundational to the learning environment in our school and directs our engagement with students, parents and the community.
In concert with parents and guardians, teachers and other school staff can help students understand such events through age-appropriate discussions, particularly how to handle their emotional reactions and the support services available. I also encourage you to also review the LKDSB’s Policy and Regulation on Equity and Inclusive Education.
If you have any questions or concerns about a student, please contact myself or visit the LKDSB website to learn more about mental health resources.
On behalf of the Lansdowne Public School staff and the LKDSB’s Equity Committee, we appreciate your assistance with supporting our students and promoting a safe and caring learning environment.
Sincerely,
Mark Houghton
Principal
