Dear Great Lakes Secondary School Families:

I am writing to inform you that Sarnia Police Service has charged a Lambton Kent District School Board teacher with sexual assault and sexual exploitation involving a student. This teacher has not been in the school since the allegations were made. School staff and the Lambton Kent District School Board have fully co-operated with the police during their investigation, and will continue to do so.

I wanted to inform you of this, as the LKDSB values open and transparent dialogue with its students, families and the community.

The LKDSB takes all allegations seriously and will continue to cooperate with police on this matter. I feel it is important to note that LKDSB staff will ensure students receive the necessary supports in order to mitigate the impact on students' success and well-being.

Sarnia Police Media Release

Local Teacher Charged With Sex Related Offences​

The Sarnia Police Service has arrested and charged a local Sarnia male teacher for sexual offences involving a high school age female student.

The allegations were reported this summer and following an investigation by members of the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch the suspect was arrested.

The accused in this matter, Tyler Shaw, 36 years of age, of Sarnia, has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation. He has been released with conditions pending a future court date.

Tyler Shaw has been employed with the Lambton Kent District School Board at Great Lakes Secondary School and prior to that was teaching at Sarnia Collegiate Institute and Technical School (SCITS).

Investigators wish to ensure that there have been no other victims. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Brian Halfpenny at 519-344-8861, extension 6213.​
